Goodbye, My Friend

Massive Hematemesis Leading To Death. I'm not too familiar with this case but when a friend of mine died because of it, it caught my attention. She just died 2 days ago. I visited her funeral just this evening and I still couldn't believe she has already passed away. But I know she is already in the hands of the Lord and she is happy, now that she no longer suffers from any kind of sickness or pain.

She was a 20 years old female, who is married and her child just only died last year. She was admitted also last year due to a Extensive Pneumonia. She barely made it alive back then. I really thought it was the end for her because I had a patient who also had the same case as her, who died just a day after admission. I know it was God's miracle for her to recover from such a severe sickness. She really escaped death at that time. After her discharge, she went on with a normal living with her husband. Then, it started in the middle of this year when she started vomiting small amounts of blood (Hematemesis) from time to time. Due to financial problems, there are no clinical check-ups done. Assuming, it was just because of stress or lack of sleep, it has gone for long, ignoring how dangerous the symptom could have been. So 2 days ago in her home, she suddenly vomited a massive amount of blood before passing out and let out her last breath. She was still taken to the nearest hospital but the doctors already declared her DOA. The family couldn't afford an autopsy to rule out her true cause of death hence it's still a mystery what really triggered her to have a massive hematemesis.

Even though what happened became a shock to everyone especially to her husband, even though how painful it came out to be, there are still reasons to be thankful for. She's no longer in pain and I know she's already happy in the House of Our Lord. There are also lessons to learn from like how important health care is and like my friend, she lived her life to the fullest, treating each day like it's her last. We'll miss you and you'll always be remembered in our hearts and surely someday, we'll see each other again...
