While we imagine that most pets would rather achieve immortality through not dying, the majority that do achieve an afterlife do through
loyal works. For the modern pet-lover, a multiplicity of options exist, both
elaborate (with the obligatory
caveat emptor), to
twists on the traditional backyard internment. For the more modernist,
advanced taxidermy provides a couture option, as does
converting them into jewelry. For the truly avant-garde,
Cattelan or
Hirst may be available for commission. The more traditionally-minded can opt for mummification; while this service is
available from professionals, it is also within the reach of the
dedicated amateur. Cloning may be viable, but the only
US Company doing it is currently in an IP war with their
competitors in Korea, and at this time, the best bet may be to just
hold onto the goods until the dust settles. Alternatively, there's alway
cryonics.
