Skin Cancer Here I come!

Jun 18, 2006 17:02

Ahhh Yes I'm Shedding my layers like a snake sheds layers of old skin, Both literally and figuratively. In the literal since my back is practically falling off thanks to the heat lamp in the sky. I swear I'm just going to get Ari to turn me on a rotisserie so I cook evenly from now on ><. Cause as of now, My back is extra crispy, my arms are golden, and my chest is fluorescent white... Nothing against the day, but damn this is why I much prefer the night ><. I mean me and sun, we just don't see things eye to eye... last time I tired, I couldnt see straight for a week as a matter of fact. But I have two months to remedy the situation, perferably with all my skin intact.

So far i have been to only two Beach's one in Athens and one in Larisa. Larisa is by far (in my opinion) the best beach I have ever been to. However I will describe the events that took place at both locations.

Athens
To reach this beach you drive under a bridge that is sufficiently adorned with all sorts of various graffiti, up to a beach sparsely adorned with permanent wooden beach umbrellas. Behind them in the distance the hazy blur of mountains and under them the red tiled roofs of the city. Now these beach's were adorned with not sand but rocks, the kind of rocks that get extremely hot in the sun... the kind that leave blisters on your feet and you have to run to get to the water, but that are jagged and sharp and running on hurts just as much as standing on. So you pick the lesser of the two evils, 3rd degree burns on your feet, or jagged cuts and scratches. However I really am over exaggerating the rocks. they weren't bad at all, a little uncomfortable at times when your feet are all soft and pruney after getting out of the water, but not bad. I actually prefer the rock beach's to the sand. The water was cool, not to cold, but not perfect. But what made this beach far more interesting is its surrounding environment...
Around the beach I found a stone pillbox on a little out shoot of rock, which I can only speculate as to what it was used for. Also strategically positioned on a small cliff next to the stone contraption was a robot keeping an ever watchful gaze over his domain. Exploring the beach led me to lots of curious crustaceans. Be it large crabs that were to damn quick and the rocks that were to damn jagged to even think of catching up with one. A large congregation of see-through shrimp having a little convention, which exploded into a flurry of silver streaks of lightning as they darted every which way, when I wondered to close. I of course apologized to the remaining few, but somehow I don't think they cared. I also found wonderful bright crimson anemones which feel quiet similar to jelly fish only without the whole pain thing after. Also the rocks were adorned with little white aquatic umbrellas which grew in the hundreds and would leisurely sway back in forth tranquilly with the water. While walking around in the water there were these black rocks all over the place, i glanced at them once and then didn't give them a second thought... And to my dismay these little black rocks hurt excruciatingly bad when stepped on, turns out they were sea urchins! I love the little critters, however I highly recommend not stepping on them! Now all that I have left to do at the Athens beach is swim out to the 2 little islands of rock. I'm hoping to find even more crazy crustaceans there, preferably with less lasting marks this time.

Athens Beach... lovely no?

The Silent Sentry

Exploring in and around caves near the beach = Fun

Larisa

This is quiet possibly the most exquisite beach in existence. I was blown away by it. You first must drive through the twisting and turning road through a great mountain . Where upon you reach the other side you park your car then begin a 10 minute hike through the foliage that covers the mountain side. You emerge on the other side in a place of sheer paradise. I had to stop and just take it all in. There were cliffs and rocky outcroppings on both sides of the little beach, making it your own personal swimming paradise. It isn't well know so there aren't generally alot of people as well. On the right side, the cliffs extend out into the water making great places to dive from. On the left the it is more of a little rock out cropping which you can swim around to get to another beach which has a little bar and place to grab some food at. But I much prefer the crescent of a beach, for there is where the aquatic ambiance was the most impressive. The only negative thing about this beach, is this is the beach which robbed me of a good 4 inch's of my hard earned flesh ><. But It was most definantly worth it, and it will be worth it again to morrow! This beach was a rock beach like the last one, however the rocks here were amazing and the water was heaven, it was the perfect temperature. However I think my suitcases will be much to heavy for the flight back because of all the unique and peculiar rocks I managed to find. Played a little water soccer, and skipped rocks for awhile, but the real adventure was of course when I went out for a little explorative venture. I first decided to go with the perilouse rocks to my right, climbing in sandles is rather difficult and I don't recommend it... but since it was all I was equipped with it is what I braved the vast rock wall with. The rocks were a twisting turmoil of dagger sharp ridges, I had to pick my paths very carefully, a few times I was even forced to jump from one rock to another to continue my trek (luckily there was deep water below me if I were to slip up) Anyway it was well worth the effort because I found a quiet little cave. I rested there for awhile before returning, I plan to go even further next time when I have a pair of shoes with me, so it will be a little easier. On returning I was graced with the presence of a lovely nude sun bather spread eagled on the beach... I mean nothing is a more welcome sight the a 40 year old guy sharing his manhood with the world. It is really quiet invigorating, I strongly recommend it to anyone, its an eye opening experience to say the least :). however once I braved that part of the journey which i found more perilous that jumping from rock to rock...
I put on a mask and went in search of buried treasure. My first find was a rusty fork, which i decided wasn't worth keeping so put back I began to swim closer and closer to the rock outcropping on the left side of the beach which is where i found lots of lovely little creatures. Plenty of fish, but what really was the highlight was this ordinary shell i saw sitting near a rock. On my decent to get it, i witness all sorts of lovely things like sea urchins the size of my fist, and clams with radiant midnight blue inner shells. When my hand finally closed around the shell and dust was kicked up all around it, I noticed 3 large blood red tentacles withdraw into the rock even further. I had found myself a lovely octopus! Alas today I did not disturb him for I figured there would be plenty more, and I wasn't properly equip ed to handle the cold water in and around the rocky caves where i found him. Since the water here was hidden from the sun it was much MUCH colder. Sadly That was all I was able to find I intend to redouble my efforts to morrow and come home with more treasured possessions and perhaps a new pet octopus! we shall see. While sitting in the sun drying off we were gifted with but another lovely nudist whom insisted on running to the water jumping in the waltzing slowly back, he even at one point went around asking for a lighter I assume. There was only one girl that went topless, but it didn't come close to make up for having to witness the two guys flaunting there marbles. However the girl reminded me of someone, with her dreadlocks and nose ring, it was very peculiar the resemblance.

Try to torch me and you'll find You can't turn me or deter me No matter how you try You can't burn me
