[oom] coruscant - jedi temple

Aug 26, 2009 15:20

It's been a week since Ben Skywalker's parents confined him to the Jedi Temple. He's mostly gotten over his knee-jerk whiny reaction: yes, they're being unfair and overprotective, but, well, spending a while training and revising old lessons can't do any harm. And though he's reluctant to admit it, the GAG will function well enough without him. Shevu and Lekauf aren't exactly incompetents.

It's still annoying. These corridors are unfamiliar, laid out differently to the Academy on Ossus; he doesn't know any of the other students but, of course, they all know Grand Master Luke Skywalker's son; and said Grand Master seems to take every opportunity to point out gaps in his son's training.

It's in his duelling, especially. He knows that; he doesn't need his dad or Kyp or Corran pointing it out all the time. He can fight -- Jacen taught him some, and Faith taught him more -- but his methods are unconventional.

He fights to incapacitate his opponent. Isn't that the point? Why does he need to know all these forms and katas? It's like they're teaching him to dance!

He tried to say as much to his father this morning. Tried to point out that fighting isn't about who can swing their lightsaber prettiest. It's about who wins.

He'd said it calmly, logically, but his father had still frowned and called an end to their session.

Ugh.

He's eaten and showered now, and supposes he should work on the essay his parents set him.

He considers this for approximately two microseconds before grabbing his lightsaber and heading out the door. He thinks Milliways as he opens it; at least the lakeside would be a change of scenery for training.

But beyond is just the Temple proper. The pretty red-haired girl at reception offers a shy smile of greeting. After a moment, Ben shrugs, and returns the smile as he passes the girl.

Oh well. There's still a model of training droid he hasn't tried out yet.
