[oom] anakin was a really great jedi.

Be professional, Jacen had warned him before heading off for a pre-shakedown-cruise meeting. Ben had rolled his eyes (just as soon as Jacen couldn't see him). Right, like he needed to be told. He'd been doing this for months! He was totally professional.

"--whoa."

He didn't trip over the raised section in the doorway, but it was a close one. He sensed amusement in the guard leading him, and he smiled ruefully.

"This is only the hangar," the guard said, letting his amusement trickle into his voice. (Ben liked that they could do that around him and not Jacen.) "Just wait until you see your quarters, Lieutenant."

"I have my own quarters?"

"Sure. You're an officer, aren't you?"

Ben rubbed at the back of his hair uncertainly, feeling the braid there. It wasn't so contradictory, was it? Being a Jedi and being a military officer? They did it during the Clone Wars, didn't they? "...yeah, guess so."

"Guess so? You know, if you only guess so..."

Ben grinned and shook his head, then waved the guard forward. "C'mon, show me the rest of this ship. Where are the secret sabacc games held? Where's the best place to play shockball? Which lounge doesn't check if you're twenty-one under your helmet?"

"Now you're talking."

'This ship' was the newly-built Star Destroyer assigned to the Galactic Alliance Guard -- it was to be Jacen's flagship, pretty much. It was heavily-modified, customised to Jacen's specifications, not that Ben knew the difference. The last time he'd seen the inside of a Star Destroyer was when he was born, and he didn't exactly remember that. All he knew was, this was big. This was really big. And he had not a small amount of authority over it.

Sometimes, the power made him a little nervous. He supposed Jacen knew that, and that was why he reminded Ben to be professional. Professionals didn't throw up while on tours of ships, after all.

But he still didn't need to be told. The name of it was enough to remind him, enough to make him buckle up and stand tall and a thousand other metaphors, because it was a name that meant something to him. Meant everything.

Anakin Solo.

It was a little spark of pride in Ben's heart, each time he heard someone say it. Officially, he had never met Anakin Solo; unofficially, there was a bar at the end of the universe that said differently. Either way, he had heard enough about his cousin to know that he was amazing, he was a hero, and this was one of the best ways they could honour him.

A military ship. Right at the front lines from day one, undoubtedly. Doing only what Colonel Jacen Solo deemed most important.

Wouldn't Anakin appreciate that?

(they named a gag star destroyer for my dead boy)
