(You'll probably all think I'm pathetic for this, but whatever. I didn't make you read it. )
As most of you know, my 'real' life is a bit of a mess with everything that's happened, and the only real non-online friend I have is Char. As a result, the people I meet over the net (LJ, various forums, communities, mutual friends on msn, etc) mean more to me than they really should.
Sandra was one of those people. I'd never met her, or spoken on the phone. The only contact I'd had with her was over the net, as words and images on a screen. It shouldn't hurt this much to learn of her death, but the pain is so real. It's crazy.
Nobody else seems to be as affected by is as I have been. I guess it's abnormal to care this much over something that ultimately doesn't matter anyway... but it made me wonder.
What about all these people who just disappear without explanation? Talking normally one day, then they never get seen online again. No LJ updates, no MSN messages, not seen on any forums or IRC chat. Did they just get bored? Did their computer break? Or something far worse, and how would we ever know? In her case, she had kept a short list of email addresses of her online friends. Her brother sent out the mail to those people detailing what happened, and it spread through word of mouth. But not everyone does this, or thinks about doing it...
Just made me wonder, that's all. Thought I'd write it down because this journal is a bit quiet at the moment.
