This past Tuesday, Sarah and I went to SC to visit my family. It went well, and we were all having a good time, except I kept getting sicker and sicker. I couldn't stop coughing, and my chest was so tight I couldn't really take a deep breath. I went to the urgent care on Friday and the doctor there examined me, did a bunch of tests (swabs and blood tests, oh my), and came back and told me I have asthma.

WTF?

He said that some people have asthma that is largely untroublesome but can be triggered by a bacterial infection or virus, and this is what I have. It's true, it does take me forever and a day to get over a cold or flu, but I figured that was what happened to everyone. He gave me an albuterol inhaler and told me to drink more water and use the inhaler whenever my chest feels tight.

So that's what I've been doing. And I can't believe how much better I feel. I can *breathe*. My chest doesn't ache from tightness. I don't lose sleep for coughing. It's fantastic. I'm supposed to go see my doctor when I get home and get a regular prescription (and maybe a steroid inhaler too), but it's seriously amazing. I just assumed that colds and flu were like this for everyone.

Now Sarah is in SC hanging with the 'rents, and I'm in Philly for MAAWG. I have a lovely hotel room and I ordered chicken noodle soup from room service and watched Food TV and now I'm about to take a hit off my inhaler and go to bed. I miss Peter and my Sarah (who has been ridiculously cute this week) but I need the sleep.
