The End

As I said on my Facebook page, those are two of the most satisfying words to type. I finished my novel today, clocking it in at 92,764 words. It's a rough draft, of course, but I wrote it all the way through, beginning to end, in the space of less than two months. That's a lot of writing!

I was fortunate (depending on how you look at it?) that I've only got a part-time job right now, so that left me with plenty of time and energy to work on the thing (and not much income, but poor Tony's been doing lots of overtime and busting his ass -- a fact for which I'll forever be grateful). It was a pretty heady creative process, and I admit, I might feel somewhat adrift now that it's done. I mean, sure, there's the revising and editing part, but I don't know if that'll be quite as intense (or maybe it will -- who knows?) But the bulk of the creative aspect is done. It was a lot of fun, getting to know those characters and telling that story. I'm going to miss it.

Not that it's over. Maybe this is just the beginning of much more to come. I certainly hope so!

My Mom helped me with the whole thing. It was her brainchild too -- she came up with one of the three main characters after all (probably the most memorable one!), and helped with devising the world and rules and general storyline. Somehow having her there to bounce ideas off of and give me feedback provided the impetus I needed to keep going. So kudos to her for being there every step of the way!
