watch and wait and pray for the day

Well, Taffy called me a little while ago, and apparently the high school Prom was the type of disaster you might expect from a Sunnydale prom. She sounded tired and on the verge of upset, so I just got the highlights, but it seemed to involve demons, a werewolf... and Stefan trying to pick up a high school girl. Tsk. We've got to do something ( Read more... )

"I'm fine," I say, leaning my elbows on the bar and looking her over. She does look exhausted. "Business as usual around here, you know. Well, except for the Grak demon that pulled all the leaves off of the ficus in the corner and ate them before I could run him out of here." I gesture at the poor denuded plant. "I'm going to try and find out if the leaves will grow back. Honestly."

I stand up straight, brushing my bar apron off. "Want something to drink?"

She definitely seems more herself even though she's tired. Good for you, Jordan, I say mentally. I put her drink in front of her on a bar napkin. "His sister? That'd be the one who made your life miserable for a while, I guess?"

Well. We know how Heather got Jordan's talisman now. And yeah, my opinion stands on how she got Stef's.

Good thing I'm a demon with a long history of duplicity, or I might have blushed when she said that, because I have a really clear idea of some of the things he's been up to. Things Taffy must never, ever find out about, since they involve her boyfriend.

"Yeah, I know," I say. "We may have to put him on anti-hanging watch." A pause. "He was really trying to pick up a high schooler?"

"He hasn't been in here for a while," I say. "He's probably avoiding me because I tried to talk to him about how he's been acting last time I saw him." I'll just leave out that this talk took place right after he left Heather's place that one night... "So I agree, we should take care of it as soon as possible. No telling what he's up to."

That's a frightening thought, actually.

"A boy?" I say, pouring a drink for myself. Ginger ale; I'm working, after all. "A random boy or somebody you knew? And please tell me you don't leave your apartment unlocked..."

I eye her quizzically.
