"HE is the only one that can save this country from the liberals that want him removed from the government. Our great nation will not stand if we delete HIM from all aspects of our government as the atheists want."
I got this in an email along with a photo above it.
Is it true that America was founded as a Christian nation? Our early leaders were not christians (Jefferson, Adams, Paine...). Those who first had the vote were largely deists. Atheism was always a force. Most were christians, but they did not found the nation. They didn't even have a say in the government in the founding stages. Can the argument then stand that America was founded as a christian nation?
The only argument I can think of is that those who originally came over here in 1607 were christians. Well, not all were. There were Jews, slaves with tribal religions, etc. America is more of a "whatever" nation than a christian nation. Moreover, it seems arrogant and unchristian to push so many.
