Urgent! Help!

So, people don't list their "music" enough in LJ, because here I am trying desperately to put together mix CDs for my three-and-a-half-week trip to Edmonton to finish up the damn game -- and let me tell you how much I want to leave my husband for a month to go to a place where the temperature is thirty freaking degrees LOWER than the freezing ( Read more... )

I realise I'm very late and you're probably back from the trip by now, but what the hell. I just have to second tzikeh's Sondheim influence and say that if you can get your hands on a copy of Assassins, it's worth a listen. Also, everyone involved in any kind of art, writing included, should listen to Sunday in the Park With George.

Also, for road trips, the soundtracks to O Brother, Where Art Thou, The Mambo Kings, and Hans Zimmer's Power of One (this is the score that made Disney choose him to compose for the Lion King, but it's ten times better than that).

As for bands, well, everybody should listen to the Tea Party, at least to the songs on their earliest stuff and their compilation, Tangents. I love that band. But I'm prejudiced because they inadvertently serve as the muse for a lot of my writing ( ... )

Recent music purchases:

Tori Amos, Scarlet's Walk
Coldplay, A Rush of Blood to the Head
Chicago movie soundtrack
Chevelle, Wonder What's Next
Radiohead, Kid A

Lovely CDs, all. tzikeh currently has my Chicago CD - must get that back from her, because I really want to listen to it again (though I have her original cast recording so I can't complain. Jerry Orbach!).

I would also highly, highly recommend the Requiem for a Dream soundtrack, if you don't have it (even if you haven't seen the movie). It's instrumental, the Kronos Quartet, and it's nothing short of stunning - I can, and have, listen to it for hours on end. One of my favorite pieces was used in the long TTT trailer.

The Kronos Quartet!

I have to replace my vanished Pieces of Africa CD. Have to, have to, have to.

Does, or does not, the iPod COMPLETELY FUCKING RULE?

I'm just saying.

It does, in fact, rule.

The feature I love most is using it as a little firewire disk, actually; I can stash WIPs on there and then work on them from wherever.

It occurred to me while writing that out last night that I was missing things from the list, so I revised my big playlist this morning ( ... )
