Massive spoilers for POI 3x09 The Crossing
I knew they were going to kill Carter the second John kissed her. I spent most of the rest of the episode in denial and hoping, but I knew.
FUCK THEM. Seriously, FUCK THEM. I was so excited, they gave her such an awesome arc, they finally started using her in amazing ways, all just so they could FRIDGE HER TO GIVE JOHN MORE MANPAIN.
FUCK THEM.
She couldn't even die like a hero, saving someone else. She had to die in John's arms and her LAST WORDS had to be ABOUT JOHN.
mollyamory also nails it about the out-of-left-field John/Carter, and that whole part made me even more mad, especially because they got THAT wrong, too, because NO, look, Carter and John absolutely have a shippy relationship, they DO, but that moment is not the foundation for it. HAROLD is the one who rescued John and gave him a purpose. The show has relied on that narrative repeatedly and trying to repurpose it for this scene was WRONG.
That bullet should have been the bullet from NUMBER CRUNCH. It should have represented the moment where Carter decided that John was worth breaking her rules for, where she told him with her actions, by saving him, that he was in HER judgement, in the judgement of the best and most honest cop he knew, that he was worth saving and keeping out there. That should have been the moment where he could have started to IMAGINE loving her because it was the moment she told him he was worth loving. THAT was the speech he should have given her.
