We took Hypatia to the NY Renaissance Faire up in Sterling Forest today!
The sun turned out to be strong enough we wanted a hat for her, and she ended up picking out a pirate hat. Then she asked for a pickle and proceeded to wander the faire munching this giant pickle roughly half the size of her head, in her pirate hat. Many many many many of the faire booth people commented. It was mostly notable to me because she didn't get shy at all, which is a new development, roughly a week or two old. She even (very occasionally) would stop munching long enough to respond. (Mostly to say, "I'm eating this pickle!")
She also delightedly rode a camel, "helped" mommy shoot some arrows, went on a human-powered carousel, danced in the paths with me to the music playing over in the tournament field, poked her head interestedly into many booths, wanted to go in the castle (it was a museum of medieval dungeon equipment so we gave that a miss), ate chocolate-covered banana, french fries, ice cream, funnel cake, and sweet potato fries, and then came home and slept for 2.5 hours.
\SUCCESS/
(I ended up wearing the floppy backup hat.)
I always have an unreasonably intense feeling of self-satisfaction after an outing like this comes off smoothly and without meltdowns -- I think it's the heady combination of any project success plus the underlying intense relief of having dodged a bullet. :P
She is now going to bed after a quiet afternoon in (she is telling her giraffes all about her trip to the faire), and
zooey_glass and
elz are in town tonight and I am out to have dinner with them as soon as she settles down, so that's all she wrote for tonight!
OH WAIT: I have an important question! If I made a Reese/Finch "primer" vid -- ie, not a fanvid, just a set of key shippy clips -- would any of you be interested?
View poll: Primer vid Also btw, there are lots of really interesting and useful comments over on
the pomodoro post from a few days ago mentioning other tools and methods that have worked for people -- well worth checking out!
