New layout: modified refried paper

Jan 23, 2007 10:56

I've modified the Refried Paper S2 layout, and thought I would share it in case anyone would like to use it also. You can see what it looks like at my journal, with the colors and a customized title banner added. It's pretty much the same look as refried paper, and just fixes a few omissions I found annoying about the style.

The changes:
- page summary now doesn't break the width
- tag list/cloud available in sidebar
- link to 'visible tags' page by default in the lj navigation box
- skip links listed at the bottom of the page as well as the top
- option to add a custom banner image to the title area and set the title font independently

ETA:
- font size customizable separately from font family

I also made a couple of things default (but these can be switched back easily by any user):
- changed the default font to Verdana to match the standard comment pages
- disabled custom comment pages

To use this layout, you have to have a paid account and be using S2.

Then you do the following:

Go to Your Styles (under Advanced Customization, for future reference).

In the "Create Style" box, put in whatever style name you want to use (I am calling my own "refriedpaper-astolat"), and hit the Create button.

A new style with that name will appear in the list of your styles. Click the Edit button next to that style.

On the next page, there will be a pull-down menu for Layout. Scroll all the way down the menu to Other... and a text entry box labeled Layerid will appear.

Put in the following number: 8013072 and hit the Change button. Afterwards, hit Save Changes and you will end up back on the Your Styles page.

Now you can preview your journal with the new style. Go to yourljname.livejournal.com/?s2id=12345. If you like it, go back to the styles page and hit the Use button next to the new style you just created. Voila!

Then you can go to Edit Journal Style and the Custom Options tab to customize the fonts, colors, sidebar position, whether tags/page summary are active, put in your own banner image, etc.

Hope that is useful to anyone else!
