Cough and cold medicine

Jan 19, 2013 14:28

For the last couple of days I've had a cold. I had the usual sneezing and runny nose, etc., but I've also been coughing a lot more than I normally do (and I normally cough a lot to begin with.) I've taken my rescue inhaler multiple times, and it isn't making much difference. (It helps for maybe 15 to 20 minutes after I take it, and then I start to cough again.)

I've always been told that because I have asthma, I'm not supposed to use any form of cough medicine.

In the past if I've had a "tickle in my throat" kind of cough I've found that over-the-counter ASA with codeine helps, but this cough is coming from my chest. I am not producing any kind of mucus, so I don't know if it would count as what they call a productive cough.

I'm coughing so much my throat is raw and my chest hurts when I cough. Should I try taking cough medicine, or should I go to a walk-in clinic and talk to a doctor?
