first post answering the "five things" meme. I hope my English stays coherent enough. o.o
5 Most heartbreaking moments in any shows/books/movies...
That’s a tough list. I LOVE having my heart broken by fiction, so there are lots and lots of moments I could choose from. XD These are just the ones most on my mind right now:
5. Black Beauty (1996)- I should never have watched that when I was young and then ret-conned it as having a happy ending. The whole movie traumatised me a bit. I re-watched it some months ago (because it has Sean Bean and Peter Davison in it *g*) and it still stings. Those poor horses *sniff*. .
4. Seishirou’s Death [from the manga ‘X’] - I’m not sure if it would make the list were I to read it now for the first time. Yet, I read it for the first time 6 years ago or so, and I can still cry over it.
The terrible thing about that scene is not the death in itself, but the many things left unresolved and the effect it has on the character that killed him, whose life becomes completely meaningless with that one act.
3. “Look Raist! Bunnies” [from Dragonlance - Legends] - It’s essentially the moment when Raistin dies - for this you need to know that he started out as the shadiest of the ‘good guys’ went over to the dark side, did some pretty abominable things and in the End became a God of Darkness and Destruction after becoming so powerful that he could kill the Goddess that formerly held that position - or rather he didn’t but would have done (there’s Time Travel involved. Don’t ask ;) ). Anyway, he manages another Face-Heel-Turn at the last second though circumstances that are rather gut-wrenching themselves and would take up too much time and space (*g*) to retell here. Anyway: He has an epiphany and does something very noble to save the world (yeah, sounds cheesy, eh? XD) that leaves his soul trapped in Hell Eternal - but instead of allowing endless torture in the Abyss the boss of the nice deities decides to piss off his counterpart (well, she’s his sister. I bet you all know about sibling rivalry ;) ) and puts Raistlin to sleep with the one happy memory he has of the only time he ever felt safe. Awwww :D. I never would have expected such lasting emotional effects when I started reading those books, as they are rather unadulterated basic High Fantasy fluff - with dragons and wizards and unicorns and dwarves and golden woolly mammoths. *g*
2. Saul kills his wife [from the New ‘Battlestar Galactica’]- I can’t remember any other time I cried so hard over a TV show.
It even took several moments before I could fully comprehend what had just happened on the screen. I won’t say no more, just that this is one of the reasons why I still believe that, despite all its many faults, BSG is still one of the most impressive TV shows of the last few years.
(and now don't give me details about what they do with that precious moment in season 4 cause I haven't watched it yet ;) )
1. The Red Wedding [from 'A Storm of Swords’. Third book of ‘A Song Of Ice And Fire’] - Perhaps the most infamous scene in the books. How many characters (minor AND major. We’re talking focalizer characters here *g*) can an author kill in one scene? Read ‘A Song Of Ice And Fire’ and find out. (and as if the massacre itself were not gut wrenching enough, there’s also some unfriendly things happening to the corpses afterwards, oh yes!) Whenever people complain about their favourite characters dying, and how does an author have the right, even if it benefits the story, I might think of this scene and go “You know nothing, Jon Snow”. ;-)
I even have a picture for you, because ASOIAF Fans are busy fanartists:

The scene in which Ned has to kill Lady [from ‘A Game of Thrones’. Third book of ‘A Song Of Ice And Fire’] - it was the first hint that A Song Of Ice And Fire’ is not a nice book series: Little, fluffy baby animals may die, horribly - and sit next to you loyally and look up at you lovingly with their big, innocent eyes while you sharpen the blade that cuts their neck. I really think the scene is just so intense in my mind - even considering all the other brutal things that happen in the books - because usually authors wouldn’t dare kill puppies in that way in a FANTASY NOVEL - and also because I’m an animal lover ;)
5 scariest Criminal Minds-Unsubs
5. The Fox. He wiped out whole families and no one seemed to notice *shudder*
4. The Cannibal from ‘Lucky’. I don’t even want to think about it. I could just point you to
failte_aoifes meme entry. "God is in all of us" - "and so is Tracey" *yuck*
3. The one from ‘Limelight’. The DRAWINGS alone were disturbing enough, HALP!
2. The Couple from “A Perfect Storm”, especially the lady. That is still one of the most disturbing episodes ever. I cannot listen to that song (‘Only The Good Die Young’) anymore they play on one of the victim’s DVDs and I LOVE Billy Joel. <.<° Luckily the song never was one of my favourites :D .
1. Frank - doesn’t need explaining. You know the worst thing about him? He came back for a second round! I never felt better than when the train hit him.
5 best/worst bifis
Okay, here we go
The 5 best (ONLY 5???? XD Hard choice. Really hard choice.)
5. Doctor Who And The Pirates - Musical. Pirates. ‘nuff said *g*
4. The Holy Terror - Scary and funny (although the funny goes on a bit too long for my taste. Does have the Frobisher-bonus though ^^
3. Neverland - Fucking EPIC!
2. Scherzo - Two people walking around in a white nothingness for two hours, talking about their feelings. Not many authors could pull this off and make it work, but Shearman ‘God’ did.
1. The Kingmaker - wins first place because it is the one story that embodies most what I want of Doctor Who. Lots of craziness, tough choices, a bit of a moral dilemma, a doctor/companion team that actually works and timey-whimey stuff. Oh and it is a Historical which adds another bonus ;)
The 5 worst
5. Catch 1782 - invented boredom - defines boredom - adds new meaning to the word “boredom”. And the solution is a bloody joke.
4. Minuet In Hell - is a trip into hell for the listener: unlikable secondary characters, villains who can’t decide whether they’re supposed to be serious or comedy and some of the most badly done American accents ever to be heard. The only reason to listen to this one is Nicholas Courtney.
3. The Rapture - WHY DOESN’T IT STOP? Why does it go on and on and on for 110 minutes? Terrible, terrible audio play. Words fail me.
2. Scaredy Cat - Instead of the usual 25-35 minutes per episode we get about 17. You would think I would complain about it’s shortness but considering the content of ‘Scaredy Cat’ it is actually a good thing. Though I like the moment when it is revealed that you have listened to a psychopath raving for the last half an hour XD
1. Nekromanteia - has botched characterisation in the extreme not only of the main characters, but after some 40 minutes even of the guest characters. Add to that a plot that nobody understands with twists and turns and a general logic that would make Uwe Boll look ashamed. How could this thing ever get produced? XD The only good moments in it are the beheading jokes. *heeee*
- Top Five Doctors
8
- is the cutest littlest thing ever. He’s just so happy and curious about everything. What’s not too love about him? Also he has got the greatest voice and is played by Paul McGann. :)
"Shoooooooes! Look at me I've got wonderful shoes!" :D
6
- His TV stories must be the worst Doctor Who episodes ever (with little exceptions), but I love his pompous style and he’s absolutely lovely in the audios (probably because a) he isn’t forced to over act, and b) you don’t have to look at his coat).
at least for one episode the gave him a nice blue cloak
Now the following three are hard to put into rank: They share the position of favourite Doctor. Whenever I just want an episode to make me feel good it’s one of those three:
9
- Is played by Christopher Eccleston and is simply fantastic. He’s a bit moody, dark and broken. I love how he needs the companion to break into his shell. Also I love his humour *g* (bananas are good for you ^^). Err, apart from that he’s just cool.
Tennant did so not have to bring cute to the new show. It had already been there.
3
Look at him being doctor-ish! He'll give you a shot if you don't leave him your sandwich.
- Is arrogant and unfriendly and extremely egoistical and stoic and likes to be admired and show off how clever he is … but I just love him for that. He’s wonderfully eccentric (will eat a sandwich during a swordfight), has great taste in clothes and cars, has great banter with the master and can do just about anything with anything.
this picture is included because of FENCING! :D
5
- wins because he has the added bonus of being played by Peter. *g* What I like about his Doctor is that he is bit of a wimp. He’d rather not be a hero at all, is too trusting of shady characters (or maybe a bit dumb :p) gets dragged into situations instead of controlling them and couldn’t everyone just play cricket? In many ways, just like the first Doctor, he’s the other spectrum in the definition of a classic anti-hero as opposed to the moody black-clothed emo with the dark past that we know nowadays. ;)
what a dork!
- Top Five Fanfictions :p
Hmm… that’s a hard one. I’ve only recently started to keep track of what I currently read and once read. Yet, I’ve still tried to put together a list of all-time-favourites. ... ‘m not ranking these.
Through The Valley Of Clichés [The A-Team] - Not A but THE one A-Team-badfic parody out there everyone should read at least once in their life. See how many clichés you can spot! XD
Nukume Dori [Tokyo Babylon/X] - A very long Chapter-fic! XD Subaru gets to relive the Year of the Bet (basic plot for one third of the fic for this pairing XD) with all his knowledge from the end of the world and tries to change its outcome. This is, after years still a work in progress, but Leareth is still one of the best writers in the fandom and usually hits the characters esp. Subaru spot on
Sleight Of Hand [Criminal Minds] - Is a pretty, angsty introspective for our Spencer. I’d love to list all the author’s stuff: She writes a heart-breakingly authentic Reid and I’d like to call her one of the best writers currently in the fandom.
The Naming Of Things [Doctor Who] - The story of two boys who will grow up to become best enemies. *g* Whatever the New Series does, this is my substitute canon for the Academy Years of the Doctor and the Master. (Yes of course it’s a bit sick. If I wanted fluff I wouldn’t ship Doctor/Master. Proceed with caution).
A Great Scene For The EU (aka "Exploited Universe") [Star Wars] - More parody fic, ahoy! A long fic in script format making fun of the Expanded Universe. It's great. And I say this as someone who adores the EU. Though as long as I can’t find the archive again that used to collect the single issues I’ll have to link directly to the Jedi Council boards and potential readers have to hunt for the fic entries themselves.
- Top Five "Bad Guys" (even very likeable ones or bad guys with a very good motive) of all time
I have real trouble not choosing, but even finding possible choices. I’m not the girl who loves the bad guys. If not for the good guys, I’m more one for the conflicted or morally totally ambiguous characters.
5. Seishirou Sakurazuka [from ‘Tokyo Babylon’ & ‘X’]
- Can he feel? Did he ever? Does he even want to? Did he learn to over the course of his story? Or is he a true Sociopath? A government hired assassin who slips into different personae like socks and loves to play mind games with his victims and the people who love him alike (oftentimes the same group of people ;) )
4. Der Hexer/The Wizard [from the German book-to-movie adaptations of Edgar Wallace crime stories]
- prototypical of the likeable villain: He is a murderer, yes, but you really don’t want him to get caught - which is amazing because the detective hunting him and his colleagues are pretty awesome characters themselves. All because he’s so funny and clever, and all he wanted was some revenge for his dead sister anyway
Is Heinz Drache seeing double? Which one's the murderer?
3. Raistlin Majere [from Dragonlance] -
I think I went into his story somewhere above already. He’s abhorrent, needy, calculating, easily manipulates everybody who crosses his way, but you just can’t help but sympathize with him. It helps that he awards the reader with endless streams of lovely sarcastic comments.
2. Littlefinger [from ‘A Song Of Ice And Fire’]
(again, picture courtesy of the great ASOIAF fan artists. :) Go looking for amokas paintings. They're wonderful)
- I have a really hard time calling him a Bad Guy, you know? XD He doesn’t set out to be evil, he just wants to come out on top when the dust settles. Oh and his weapons? Are his brains. He pulls the strings behind the guys with the actual power and the brawns. If I didn’t have any compassion I’d want to be him: Completely ruthless, totally self-serving, disillusioned about caring about anybody but himself - and successful in that! Hey, he’s responsible for the death of my first favourite character in the books, and yet, I still love him. That has got to be some proof of how awesome an antagonist he is.
1. The Master [from ‘Doctor Who’]
- wins first place, since he’s all of the above rolled into one. He can destroy half of the universe, but you’d still want him to get away with it, because he does it with charm and style and it means he’ll be able to re-appear in a later story. A true Magnificent Bastard.
Even when preparing to summon demons from the depths of hell he still has time for his numerous fangirls.
One must always know what one's best enemies are up to!
- Top Doctor Who monsters or alien species
5.Kroll -
The First time I saw him, I nearly screamed XD. He’s sooo big and so ugly and terrifyingly well animated (well, at least considering the monsters you got on Doctor Who at the time).
4. The Weeping Angels
- DON’T BLINK!
No surprise here. They’re just THAT scary. I don’t want to know how many British children didn’t go to sleep that night that Blink first aired because they were afraid to close their eyes. That Stephen Moffat must have some issues. XD.
3. The Silurians & Sea Devils
- I love them. They’re so wonderfully tragic. They would even co-exist with the humans but every time the Doctor tries to negotiate something goes wrong and the whole thing ends in senseless bloodshed.
2. The Clockwork Androids
- I agree with the Doctor: b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l. And scary, which is fed by the fact that I find most kinds of dolls, especially once with porcelain faces extremely creepy.
1. The Daleks
- Yes, I admit it, I love them. I agree they’ve been overused both on TV as well as on audio, and I don’t want to see them in any new stories for a long, long time, but I just love them. I love how the screech in constant hysteria, ruthless, emotionless, and I love their appearance, the strange metal domes. Just wonderful.
Each and every Doctor has at least one Dalek story. It wouldn't be the same without them.
- Top Five Ewan McGregor Moments *g*
5. Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, when Obi-Wan brings Luke to his Aunt & Uncle - as a Star Wars fangirl this just had to go on the list. It’s such a touching moment: no words are spoken (thank GOD considering the kind of dialogue George Lucas sometimes writes), the beautiful music is enough to go with the broken look on Ewan's face. Aaaaaaww!
4. The Long Way Round (which is entirely made of win itself), the part when they're with the Ukranian who loves guns, and Ewan picks up a guitar and starts playing (though at first he's too nervous to sing. I KNOW that feeling *g*).
Yeah, could I be any fangirlier? I don’t think so.
3. Singing ‘Roxanne’ in Moulin Rouge - goose bumps all over *g* Well I admit to have a voice fetish, and then the singing ... *sighs happily*
2. Full frontal nude scene in ‘Velvet Goldmine’ - it’s so uncalled for XD
I don't think photobucket will let me upload pics of that moment. XD
1. About every scene in ‘Big Fish’, but especially when he tries to win his girl and gets beaten up by her soon-to-be-ex. And yet - he's grinning all the way through the rather one-sided fight.
- And then he comes to in the hospital and has won! Lovely, just lovely XD
- Top 5 video games
(it’s a bit mean that I must answer this before I have finished Planescape: Torment, which so far I dearly love, but here we go: )
5. Knights Of The Old Republic
- Also spawned the release of comics in one of my favourite SW eras. :D
Harldy will a game with a Star Wars licence make me so happy. It helps that is a CRPG with round-based gameplay. A lot like Neverwinter Nights in fact. So apart from letting you play with lightsabers, and blasters, and space pirates, and Jedi :D, KotOR comes with an excellent story (nice revelation about the identity of the player character in the middle of the game XD), and lots of great likable characters (esp that sarky old Jedi hermit.) Great game. :)
4. Simon the Sorcerer
- I am mightily fond of this game series. It’s a bit like MI, only with wizards instead of pirates, and the humour is a lot more British. (was originally a British series, has now been rescued by Germans. Hehehehe :p). I’m so glad crazy adventures seem to be experiencing a revival right now :).
3. Monkey Island 3 - The Curse Of Monkey Island
- I love Monkey Island in general. I don’t think I need to explain why: Great humour, great riddles. Why did I chose part three? It was the first part that I could buy myself (not immediately when it came out, but still …) and play through (yes, I AM that young. I’m sorry if that shocks you. XD)
2. Neverwinter Nights 2 - Mask of the Betrayer
- C-RPG based on Dungeon and Dragons gameplay rules. And you know what? It’s EPIC. The story topped everything I could have ever expected from that game or even the developers (Obsidian. Who did a bit of a botched job with KotOR 2 (still like it though) and the NWN2 main campaign (still love the companions though, SAND!!! :D )). Various gamers compared it to PT (which is what I am currently trying to figure out, whether it really holds up to the so called King of C-RPGs *g*)
1. Gothic
- No other game formed my humour during my early teenage years like this one did. People might not know this game well outside of Germany or eastern Europe, but here it’s well known to C-RPGlers and has a big following - well deservedly. The game is funny (albeit a bit morbid ^^), the story is good and holds some rather neat surprises, the dialogues are great, as well as characterisation. In short: especially the writing is what makes it so good. You can forget about particularly good graphics (though fan modifications help) and the game controls are far from comfortable (we fans grew to love them though *g*). The bleak, yet believable atmosphere is what it’s known (and loved) for.
I'm a helpless fangirl. I never bought so much stuff of any other game series. I even got the Hard Cover Artbook when it came out (and still was expensive) XD
