Yesterday we went to the Mittelalterlich Phantasie Spectaculum, which is one of the biggest traveling medieval festivals in the world.
I'm very grateful to
fortytwoeyes for asking me to come with him (originally to go & see Faun live), I totally wouldn't have noticed that the festival was just touring my city otherwise. *g*
I had tons of fun there.
some impressions for you:
most of all, everything really looked great. And about 50% of all the visitors were in costumes. Great, great costumes.
I think this turned out to be our favourite tent:
predictable as I am, my highlights were the tourneys though. Knights on horseback, yeah. What's cooler than that?
We got to see two, one in the early evening, in full armour:
I loved the framing plot they made up for it. With the two evil knights (left), and the mysterious, heroic black knight with the comic relief knight (right)
and the other one at night, 23h (okay, so it was 23.30 when they finally started because the Pestumzug took so long and delayed everyone else. Maybe the corpses didn't burn fast enough? :p )
the white horse had to do almost all the really tricky stuff alone. What an amazing animal.
btw: it was a bit cool and rainy and by that time I felt my toes slowly freezing as the moisture and cold seeped through my canvas sneakers. XD That's what happens you're one of the few women, who does not own fifty different kinds of seasonal appropriate footwear. XD
I'm sorry I can't show that many pics of all the other stuff 'cause I took trizillion photos and videos of the horse shows XD
yes, videos too. Have some animations:
apart from the tourneys we were lucky to see both Saltatio Mortis as well as Faun on stage (whom I quite enjoyed - doesn't mean I'll be buying their CDs soon or anything ;) ), and otherwise spent a lot of time just wandering around and looking.
Oh and of course I had to expand my collection of dragons. I can't spent over 7 hours at a fair without buying junk. It's physically impossible. Originally I intended to by a mead horn, but the dragon was just to cool and funny looking to walk away from:
I've decided to call him Henrik. :p
takes a while to load.
