I completed The New Rules workout. This means I’m boldly going where I’ve only slightly ventured before, into the land of creating my own workouts. Last weekend, however, one of the trainers ran me through a circuit training exercise (intense, especially since it was my first foray).

He recommended I look into other circuit training programs, including Spartacus and 300. These workouts are apparently named such because they were used by the actors in 300 and the television show, Spartacus. I suppose the names ultimately make sense. After all, “I’m going to go do a Spartacus or two” has more of an aggressive vibe than “I’m going to do a Rainman” or “I’m going to do a Frog Princess.”

Still, looking up these workouts makes me feel like I should be researching how to rewind time several centuries so I can fight my way through warring tribes of outlaws in ancient Rome or something. Watch out, y’all. I’m headed off to the gym to do a Spartacus and free my fellows from fiendish enslavement and death in the modern gladiatorial arena known as the barbell cage!

I feel like workouts (especially those targeted towards men) are at times a tad melodramatic.
