[There's a loud slam as the journal seemingly falls to the ground, starting the recording function. The first thing it picks up is stumbling, followed by frantic screaming. Loud, frantic screaming.]

F-FIRE! FIIIRE!

The bread machine is on fire!

[And cue hurried footsteps as Cheria rushes off to try and find water. She tried putting bread that ( Read more... )

[Isamu had been on his way home when he heard the message, and he mutters something as he opens the door that sounds suspiciously like "Oh for fuck's sake" before yelling in the general direction of the kitchen.]

Just don't dump water on it, whatever you do!

[She was just filling up a bowl with water. It's a good thing Isamu stopped her, or the consequences would've been pretty dire.]

Hah? Why not?

Because it's an electrical appliance with exposed inner workings! Did you hit the power? Get it unplugged?

Shit, what are you supposed to do here... Blanket? No...

How much baking soda do we have, if any? Better yet, please tell me this place came equipped with a fire extinguisher...

[Yeah, that was probably hoping too much.]

[She glances around helplessly. Fire extinguisher? What would that even look like? She's just picturing a bucket of water, but if you're not supposed to use water, then...]

Ah, I'm sorry. I'm afraid I don't know what a fire extinguisher is. And I... I can't reach the plug. I can check how much baking soda we have, though!

And don't grab the fizzy kind of soda by accident!

[He's heading her way now WHAT IS THIS MESS, GIRL?]

Can you chop the cord? Shit, I don't know where the fusebox is. [If only he'd been able to pick up more magic aside from healing... Wind would be very useful right about now. Or a lack of it.]

[Oh dear, the toaster is starting to spark. That can't be good. Cheria will just rummage through the cupboards in search of that baking soda, then.]

Ah, I could chop the cord with one of my knives, but I was told that electricity and metal shouldn't mix. [Shake shake.] ... We still have half a package of baking soda.

Then just... No, let me do it. We'll hope it's enough for something.

[He holds out a hand so take the box. Best not leave this to the one that set it on fire in the first place.]

Wait, do we have salt? Get that too. We might have more of it.

[Oh, she'll definitely trust Isamu with this task. And watching him remain relatively calm is helping her with her own freak-out. After hastily handing him the soda box, she strides over to the cupboards again to search for the salt.]

We have a bag... This much. [She holds it up for him to see. It still looks relatively full.]

Good. Bring it over.

[The baking soda will help, but he doesn't think it's enough to douse it completely. They need it smothered safely.

He grabs a large kitchen knife as he does this and brings it down swiftly on the cord at the closest spot available. The toaster's ruined anyway, so there's no worry about destroying any other part of it.]

Just dump it on. We'll get more later.

[Oh, so you can just chop cords with a knife. Well, that's good to know in case Cheria ever sets something else on fire. She hesitates for a moment, then carefully empties the bag of salt on the flames.]

Like this?

[Probably not the best decision, but at least the handle wasn't conductive.]

Yeah, just smother that shit. It hasn't spread on much else yet, right?

I... I don't think so... [Though the counter looks a little charred under all that toaster wreckage and salt.]

Good.

Then this is where you thank me profusely for the help.

[This is also where Cheria realizes how rude she's being.]

O-oh! I'm so sorry, Sir Isamu! I don't know what happened- The bread machine just... [Caught fire. Yes. She bows her head, partly in shame and partly in gratitude.] Thank you very much for your assistance.

I... I didn't mean to... [She has no clue what to say to that, so she just hangs her head again.] My sincerest apologies.
