I didnt work yesterday, and Nate had Lindsay. My plans were simple- sleep late, lock myself in my room, and listen to music while drawing all day. But things are never simple.
My mom called me in a panic at 9am asking if I'd be able to take her to work, so I rolled out of bed, threw on some clothes and was out the door. I stopped to chat for a while at work while grabbing my paycheck, and the manager suggested I work with Chris on redesigning the Charrette website...but I dunno. I went back to my parents house and got my dad out of bed, and got their Home Loan from the Fed Ex guy before heading back to my grandparents' house. I was supposed to have a meeting in Boston with a new client for some web design work, then go and visit one of his coffee shop locations and do a photoshoot, but there was a pretty bad storm brewing so we cancelled.
I had climbed back into bed because I didn't have much sleep that night and was still sore from running around and heavy lifting in the warehouse at work the previous day, but just before I dozed off my dad called and said he needed me to take him to the bank, so I rolled out of bed again and was out the door. By the time we had left, the rain had started to really come down. We went to the bank and I was making fun of how pathetic my phone was by using the broken hinge as a mouth and making the cell talk with some stupid voice. We both thought it was hysterical until I got a call from Nate, opened the phone, and the other hinge snapped off. My phone is literally in two pieces now, only held together by the ribbon cable and somehow still fully functional. It was kind of funny in a pathetic sort of way.
We made a dunkin's run, my dad got drenched from the rain, and we headed back to work to get my mom to sign some checks concerning their loan. On the street just before Charrette, we hit a giant, unavoidable puddle and the water splashed up over the entire car, just as the rain came down so hard that we couldn't see the raindrops on the windshield because it was just a constant stream of water. We somehow made it to the parking lot (which was now more like a swimming pool) and my mom came out to sign the paperwork. We went off to her bank and when we got there, we noticed that she hadn't signed the check. I ended up having to forge a $26,000 check LOL. I forged it so badly, it made me embarrassed to be an artist, but we had a few good laughs over it.
We went and visited my Dad's mother then went to pick up Lynne, then my mom from work. We grabbed some food and when we got back Nate called. He said that the flooding was so bad at his parent's house that their basement was now 6 feet underwater... he said they lost everything down there. When he called earlier in the day he said that he was on the way down there with Lindsay to help them, but that was hours ago, and he had been trapped in dead stopped traffic ever since. He had heard reports that a piece of the Bourne Bridge had fallen in the storm and hit cars below. The bridge was shut down and he had nowhere to go. Lindsay was in the car with him, and his parents were by themselves trying to salvage what they could.
The flooding and damage was everywhere, especially down the Cape, and traffic everywhere was stopped heading southbound. I made a quick run to the grocery store with my mom, then we left to meet Nate halfway to pick up Lindsay. Nate had to turn around and head north away from his parent's house, and we met up in traffic again on the way to the rest stop at the halfway point. There were multiple car accidents everywhere on the southbound sides of the highways, it was crazy. I tried to be supportive of Nate despite our differences right now but... I don't know if I came off as sounding too helpful for comfort, or if he was just upset from the mess of everything that had happened that day...but when I offered to buy him something to eat and drink, or help if he needed gas, he defiantly refused. I don't know if that had to do with the whole "you're not my girlfriend" thing or what but...I felt stupid for even trying to be generous.. We brought Lindsay home and she was wide awake until about 1am- I didn't get to sleep until about 2:15ish.
I don't know what ever happened to Nate's parents' house...but I am worried for them. I know they lost their washer and dryer, and probably a whole lot of personal items...and it's raining again today. Not only that, but we're going to get hit with Hurricane Ophelia tomorrow, and the Cape is gonna get blasted worst. They're right in the path of the storm and I don't know how much more flooding they can bear to take. It's a dirt cellar, not even a solid concrete foundation, and I really hope their home and property will be okay.
And I somehow managed to not hear "monkey testicles" slipped into a sentence earlier today. I thought that was humorous.
