Vancouver Grows Up--the Bad Way

Four murders this week, all men gunned down in cars, or outside of homes. All victims known to police or RCMP. You'd almost think someone was laundering out the dirt, except it's bigger dirt that's doing it. There is no righteous, one-man vigilante like Batman, righting the world from wrongs with his own form of justice ( Read more... )

Vancouver hasn't grown up at all. There is just more people moving in which equals more problems. You look back to the prohibition years it makes all these gang crimes here in Vancouver look like a turkey shoot. There was a lot of killing going during that period , and they were using Thompson SMG’s.So you can image the carnage those guns were causing .The hilarious part was you could purchase on of these out of a hardware store catalogue and have it delivered to your house. What I’m trying to say is that nothing has really changed and like these problems they will eventually iron out . The Unfortunate part is that people are going to die ( ... )

Hmmm, I think you're mixing up US history with Canada. We never really had a liquor prohibition and often Canada was where people came for the booze (especially Ontario). So Vancovuer and Thompson Guns? I've never found any information that said we had prohibition but if you have some please let me know as I was researching this for a story that I was writing in that time (but in Ontario).

But I'm talking about Vancouver and that we didn't have that level before. Yes prohibition effectively organized crime on both sides of the border and has given firm roots to the cartels of today (plus of course the Asian ones and others) but it doesn't mean it should be expected or accepted. So, I must disagree. Things have changed. Even ten years ago we did not have all these gangland shootings in Vancouver.

And yes, no place is perfect, all places have their problems and have had but these are our problems today, not of yesteryear.

Sorry for the mix up,I was takling about the prohibition in the US and that wonderful Thomspon as an example. US and Canada had a great underworld history, and it didn't come out of Ontario , but Montreal. These Mobs that ran out of Montreal were linked with the Gambino famliy back home in NYC. Which you probably already knew. Also look ups Satins Choice(Montreal)during the 60s.Nasty sons of bitches ( ... )
