Today is slightly over the one-year anniversary of my last LJ post (which was also for Smoochfest). I'm starting to think I haven't really got the hang of this blogging thing....
It's also the first time since the Smoochfest reveals went up that I got access to the laptop, or the desktop computer for that matter. These are the perils of having children on school holidays. But today, my house is full of giggly girls having a sleepover - eating pizza and having a Harry Potter movie watching marathon - so I saw my chance, grabbed the laptop and ran.
So, I wrote
The Mummy, a remix of the movie The Mummy, which just goes to show why I should never be allowed to name anything. I was a bit worried about doing a remix fic; I couldn't work out how I could make it even remotely in character. But I was seduced by the "I am a librarian" line in the movie and the rest is history - or rather 20K words of fiction.
I had an enormous amount of fun writing this story and even learned some stuff along the way. Writing drunk Draco was hugely entertaining, as was researching slang phrases from the 80s (sadly, some of them I remembered first hand). This is actually the second librarian!Draco I've written. The first was last year's Bookfair fic
The Mystery of the Dead Man's Curse. Librarian!Draco is so much fun to write that I'm thinking of going for a third!
