sorry for the typos
I havent posted an intoxicated post in a really long, long time. I supposed this is because I havent been this intoxicated in a long, long time.
I just came back from Lange's on Southport. Man, this is the best dive bar in Chicago. Anyways, the jukebox was great and the drinks were cheap. It was just Marc and I and we had a great time...the bartenders were so friendly and it wasnt overly full. SO much better than all the doche bag bars in Wrigleyville. It was really snowing out and we were supposed to see the Zoo lights, but we didnt want to walk around in the snow all night so we went to a bar around the corner.
and Without further ado, here is some reasons why I like Christmas, or just the holiday season in general:
-snow. so pretty, and it also causes snow days on a rare occasion. and I mean like, once a year rare.
-decorations. lights. shiny things
-gift giving. I love to give gifts. I also like getting a gift when I know someone knew I wanted it, but didnt really make it clear that I wanted it. It means they paid attention.
-Christmas movies: The Christmas Toy, Its a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, The Muppet Christmas Carol, and Elf (I just saw it today and I cried!). and I want to give a big "fuck you" to "The Christmas Story." I know you all like it but I fucking hate that movie. I really wanted the boy to shoot his eye out so the movie would end BAHAHAHA. Sorry, thats part of my drunken post.
-FOOOOOOOD. I love the cookies and the eggnog and the turkey and just freakin everything you can eat. I would also like to point out that I have gained NO weight since my marathon. Not because of exercise, but because of shear will power. Anyways, I love holiday treats.
-family. I get all teary eyed when I recall past Christmases in Canada. On my moms side someone got to be "santa," meaning they'd wear the santa hat and pass out te gifts. Santa was different every year - sometimes my mom would do it, or my Auntie Fran (my Auntie Fran had this funny stocking that said it wanted money...or something...in any case it made me laugh). Then we'd play guitar and sing. Also, one year my family made up a Christmas song that was to the tune of "The 12 days of Christmas." It was like a Scottish version. it was wonderful. On my dad's side, we'd have a big dinner and then the cousins would all play video games and stuff together. Boy do I miss family on Christmas.
-SONGS!!!!!!! My favorite Christmas albums are Kenny Rodgers and Dolly Parton, John Denver, and Trans Siberian Orchestra. oh yeah, and Stevie Wonder. At work, I go online to 93.9 the Lite and listen to Christmas music 24 hrs a day streamed live. I LOVE Christmas songs. It fills me with the Christmas spirit.
-Church (aka Jesus was born!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). My Choir puts on an awesome concert every year with our orchestra and childrens choir. wonderful. I never lose sight of what Christmas is really all about. I love going to church and seeing the advent candles lit, and just how people are generally more charitable on Christmas. its the holy spirit. its the season of giving.
-Chicago at Christmas!!!!! The decorations are the best! and theres parades and everyone is hustling and bustling downtown. what a great thing to be a part of...whoa. Chicago is so fun at Christmas.
Anyways, I can think of more things but im sleepy and kind of drunk. What I wonder is why do I get so emotional when I see a christmas tree or a wreath or something? Maybe its because I know Christmas is different now that Im not a kid anymore. Christmas is not what it was when I was younger. Now Marc and I have to worry about splitting our time up and trying to be fair to both families. Marc told me that when he was little his family would open presents then watch movies ALL night....and then they'd all fall asleep in the living room like a slumber party. Neither of us can get those traditions back. Anyways, thats what gets me. Ok Im done because its time for bed. Dont judge me because I had a bit to drink tonight :)
ps- if you dont get a christmas card from me, which I will be sending like, tomorrow, and you're a really good friend of mine, its because I dont have your address. Dont take offense.
