The Sci-Fi / AI Edition

It’s been one of those days. I had to leave work early (YAY!) and my boss tried to be funny (“Make sure you remember to have the checks done.”) and failed miserably. I had an appointment with the ophthalmologist, which means having my eyes dilated. Normally, this is a just a nuisance, but when you have to drive home during winter storm #67, dealing with the glare of snow, low visibility and slick roads, NOT FUN! I was thankful I had a pair of sunglasses in the car because after driving without for a couple of minutes, squinting and in pain, I had no clue how I would make it home.

Since I couldn’t see my hand in front of my face when I got home, I opted to eat early, then doze on the couch. Now that I can see clearly, I can update.

Elly427 posted a link to Joseph Mallozzi’s latest blog entry earlier today. There are some spoilers in the first couple paragraphs as he discusses beginning to work on the first two eps of the next season of SGA. But what really interested me (and Elly ;) was a deleted scene from this past Friday’s episode, ‘Trio’.

A little chat between Carter and Keller as they are knotting up that rope:

Carter: So…you seeing anyone?
Keller: What?
Carter: Around the base, you seeing anyone?
Keller: I dunno…I had a moment with - with this…guy. He’s not exactly easy to read so…I guess the short answer is “no”. You?
Carter: Well, I’m the boss, so I can’t really…
Keller: Right Anyone back home?
Carter: Uhm…
Keller: Un-huh, I thought so. Give it up.
Carter: Well, it’s complicated.
Keller: Show me a relationship that isn’t.
Carter: He’s in Washington…I’m here.
Keller: Ouch. Long distance relationship.
Carter: He’s going to retire soon, so maybe -
Keller: Really! Retire? So…an older man, huh?
Carter: Not that much older.
Keller: Washington, older man…is he like a Senator or something? Someone famous? Would I know him?
Carter: Probably not.

For the record, I am not what I would consider a shipper when it comes to SG1 or SGA. I’ve never watched an episode anxiously awaiting a kiss or hook up, though I was happy (and shocked) when they made Daniel and Vala an actual couple in the final episode of SG1. (Typically, they had to push the reset button, but it was reality for a brief, shinning moment.) But after eight years of subtle and not-so-subtle hints, failed relationships with other people, AU kisses and marriages, and the fact they finally went fishing together, it seemed ludicrous to me that Sam and Jack weren’t a couple, especially after Jack was no longer a part of SG1. So, in my reality, off screen, Jack and Sam were going at it like bunnies. Now, I can say, I was right! OK, maybe they aren’t going at it like bunnies, but they are a couple. Of course, the one scene that pointedly acknowledges this is left on the cutting room floor. I just don’t get WHY the show cannot commit to having two of it’s characters in a relationship. Especially with one character only making sporadic appearances in the franchise.

For those anxious about Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles renewal prospects I found this bit of info at Mediaweek.com:

Fox’s Prison Break, which always generates interest among adults 18-49, was second in the overnights from 8-9 p.m., with a 5.0/ 8, followed by the renewal worthy Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles at a third-place 5.7/ 9 at 9 p.m. While it may not be 24, Sarah Connor has successfully kept the time period warm.

The CG animated ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ has a home:

Lucasfilm and Turner Broadcasting announced the pickup of the much-anticipated animated series "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" will debut on Cartoon Network, with rebroadcasts on TNT, in the fall. The TV series will follow a theatrical release for "Clone Wars" on Aug. 15…..

The CG-animated "Clone Wars" will be set in the time between Episodes II and III of the movie franchise and follow Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Padme Amidala in their struggle to keep the galaxy free. Familiar villains such as the scheming Palpatine, Count Dooku and General Grievous will also be featured, as will new characters including Anakin's padawan, Ahsoka Tano.

OK, I use to be a Bryan Adams fan, but I still have to ask, what the hell is with all the Bryan Adams songs being sung on American Idol tonight? And I think I'm pulling for the guy from Australia. Who cares if it's called American Idol? ;)
