It's purely coincidental that I'm making this post on an anniversary of my baptism (October 5th), hehe. I literally just remembered this fact about 60 seconds ago ( Read more... )

Ok I said I'd respond so here I am. :)

Where to start? I suppose getting into the following of religions is a good point. Personally, as you know, I don't hold follow of beleive in any kind of religion, though that certainly means I have no place to judge others on their choices in the matter, quite the opposite I find even slightly religious people interesting, I don't see it as a delusion but rather as a held beleif that by being a fine upstanding person, obeying those rules, guidlines or commandants a person is more rounded and better for it.

I do disagree with those that take it to the level of 'if you don't beleive, you are damned' which I would consider is ignorence. But getting back to my views, Everyone has a moral compass of some kind, ignoring what everyone else thinks of this compass, a person may consider their idea of right or wrong as correct and near or completely flawless. depends on how close minded they are I suppose.

I was raised with certain values, and others I've picked up from observing the world around me, as an easy example, thou shalt not kill, this is a great commandment, but I would consider it morally fine to kill if say someone else began a fight, and made or attempted a threat on my life, this is self preservation, I would likely feel very wrong for doing so but if it's a choice of being 'pure' and loosing my life, or killing in order to live? I would rather live.

conversly I agree that stealing is wrong, even if someone has little to no option in life, it is still wrong to take something of which is not yours or free for you to take, surely an agreement of trade could be reached? many people are not so harsh.

I'm a firm believer in karma, by my definition, do unto others as you would have them do unto you, and that spreading good karma should not automatically entitle you to a reward, instead, i see that acting good deeds is a credit, of which gets used when you call on lady luck.

spreading good karma, in my opinion only earns you a little, while using that karma where it's needed, is costly, never ask or need more karma than what you have, very easy.

helping those in need is an easy way to boost good karma, gratitude in itself is very rewarding to ones mood, then modestey and being earnest works well to affirm that you feel the appreciation, which will please someone who gives their thanks.

of thanks, I am certainly thankful for each breath I take, I'm extremely thankful for my friends, and those I know. It is a blessing to have met and know those that I do, to be there in their time of need is the least I can offer in return.

I try not to say 'oh my god' and such things given my lack of deiety, but I like to use a placeholder of 'the powers that be' in the sense that 'the powers of a higher being, behold that this/that will be the case/situation/result' at the very least, I owe lady luck a lot, she has smiled upon me many a time, offering chance change or escape. I know not how to repay her for her deeds other than to humbly accept that I feel greatly indebted to her.

I do beleive in souls and spirits in the sense that there has to be a deeper unmeasureable energy of sorts which governs who we are, the body is but a vessel, the spirit it's pilot. what happens to the spirit beyond the vessel is unknown to me, not having personally seen any ghosts I can't say I honestly beleive in them. but conversly, I have heard many a story of encounters, and that is enough for me to agree that by proxy of witness, there must be something more to the trapped or resident spirits than what I could know.

so a short recap;
- I don't know about god, but I like doing good
- I don't feel a sin is actually a sin, in some special cases
- One's morals should show where the above would be appropriate
- Souls should be real, I just don't know how
- I totally owe lady luck a few rounds of stiff drinks, as way of thanks.
