A/N: And the lamest title award goes to ... THIS FICLET! Anyways, I was browsing choco_cherries for kicks and giggles and found this old challenge. Being all awesome when it's kind of late, I decided to write a ficlet about it. And because, hello, Anthony Stewart Head was in a DW episode and Giles and Rose are made of awesome, I decided to squish them together. Not beta'd because it's late and I'm tired and just want to post this baby. Also not cross-posted, mostly because I have no idea where to cross-post it to; I was thinking maybe choco_truffles, but only if you guys think it's decent. Enjoy!

She had walked into the store looking for some kind of distraction, hoping that the supernatural would distract her from the extraterrestrial, and found him instead. Not that she was complaining or anything. He was ... nice. Gentlemanly. Intelligent. Older. But nice. And charming, and good-looking, and not too much older, compared to her last. And he actually needed his glasses, which was nice.

It wasn't a whirlwind romance. It couldn't ever be, not with him, not with her, but it was nice. Nonthreatening. He showed her things that even the Doctor hadn't: Vampires, vengeance demons, slayers, and an incredible amount of research. But she felt safe with him, regardless of the fact that he was only human in a world with too many non-human things that wanted to kill them both.

They'd all been a bit freaked at first, the Scoobies, but came to accept her. She suspected it was more of the fact that their beloved librarian was not, in fact, asexual than her youth. And he wasn't even that much older, not when compared to the gang's track record.

On some level, Rose knew she loved Giles because of how much he reminded her of the Doctor. It was just a fact, not a reflection on Giles's character or worth. She just couldn't completely forget the man that had taken her so many places, not that quickly. And everything the Doctor had ever done was echoed in Giles, but in a good way. The way he pulled off his glasses when saying something important, the way he babbled about things when he was nervous, the way he loved his books, and the way he looked at her were all things the Doctor had done.

With time, she realized that there was so much new about Giles, so much that was uniquely his. And, after a good long while, the resemblances faded, and Giles was her world and the Doctor was looked back on with joy and respect and gratitude and the remembrance of love, but she wouldn't go with him if he came back for her. She had a new life with new friends, a new job, and a new love.

And it was nice.
