Today is awesome because I had a total geek-out in Study Hall today.
I was reading The Great Gatsby (chapter 5) and I came across this little gem of dialogue:
'“I adore it,” exclaimed Daisy. “The pompadour! You never told me you had a pompadour-or a yacht.”' (by F Scott Fitzgerald, not me)
I thought I recognized 'pompadour' but wanted to be sure. So I looked it up in a dictionary. And lo! there it was, the glory of my geek-dom.
'a hair style in which the front hair is swept up from the forehead, named after Mme. de Pompadour - originally Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson' (dictionary.com)
I promptly spazzed out; there was a lot of arm flailing and squeaking. Everyone in my class looked at me funny, but I just kept on flailing. It's really nice to have my fandoms somehow mesh into my real life.
And just because I made Caroline accept her love of David Tennant into her heart (and because he's very, very pretty), here's my current favorite picture of DT.
PS. Say goodbye to the letter 'e'. Tomorrow my friends and I are pulling a Life & Death Brigade and not using 'that thing twixt D and F. In omnia paratus!'
