Maybe it's island life that makes the milestones loom so much larger, or maybe it's just them: Collective them, four pieces of a puzzle, all connected and bigger than Nate can really fathom. There's something momentous simply about surviving, more so about actually thriving, that makes Nate think it's worth celebrating when they can.
Brad's birthday is one of those arbitrary pieces of information Nate has floating around in his brain from God knows when. Without school to mark the days it almost passed him right by, and now here he is in the eleventh hour, knocking on Terry's door without any idea of what to do about it, only that nothing isn't an option.
