"Are we doing the right thing?" Roxy asked out of the blue. Noah looked up from his crossword.
"I think it's a little late to be asking ourselves that particular question," he replied.
"Alex deserves to know but what if Steve finds out? Annie will never forgive us if something happens to Katie. I'm not sure if I'll forgive myself if something happens to either one." On that Noah placed his crossword book on the coffee table and turned his chair to face his wife.
"We've already mailed the letter. It's out of our hands now."
"I know, it's just that I've been thinking about it all day. When Annika came to pick up Katie today, she seemed really happy. I hadn't seen her that happy in a long time and I don't know what it's going to do to her if Alex comes."
"As I remember, Roxanne, you were the one whom brought up the idea." By now Noah was standing up and walking over to his wife. He continued firmly, "you said it wasn't fair for Alex to not know that he has a daughter. And Katie needs a dad. We both know that Annika's still in love with him. Besides would you want Tyler, Lisa, and Faith to go through what Annika's going through right now?" As he continued, Noah's voice softened.
Roxy leaned her head against her husband's stomach. "How did you get to be so smart?" She questioned.
"Easy. I married you." Noah said simply, squeezing Roxy's shoulders, "what happens happens."
Six days later
"Hi, Jenna. Here's your mail and no he's not in yet." Dana said as Jenna whizzed past the reception desk.
"Thank God for small miracles." Jenna said quietly to herself as she slid her coat off while making her way back to her desk. It wasn't her fault that she was late. The subway had closed down for a half hour because of a dead body on the tracks. At least that's she thought when the train went by the station and she saw CSU on the back of jackets. Reaching her desk, she started to flip through the mail as she took her coat off.
One envelope got her attention. It wasn't so much as the design of it - it was an ordinary white envelope. But what was on it (and ultimately what was in it) garnered Jenna to look more closely at it. Both the sending and the return addresses were handwritten in an old fashioned hand and the fact that there was a sentence saying Photo: Do Not Bend on it made her even more curious. Debating to open it or keep it for Mr. Howell to open in case it was compromising photos, she set it on top of her stack of papers and sat down to finish the rest of the mail.
The envelope taunted her as she went through her voice mail and e-mail messages. After Mr. Howell's e-mail telling her that he wouldn't be until the afternoon, she picked up the scissors. Promising herself a shot if the photo was compromising, she slit it open.
Pulling out the piece of paper first, she read There are things going on in her life that you need to know about.
"Well, that's cryptic." Jenna thought to herself before taking out the photo.
"Ohmigod!" she gasped, loud enough for Mary and Alison to look over.
It was Annika.
