I was reading around the internet and came across this site:

I agree with a lot of this and have been thinking about similar topics lately. I need to come up with solutions to no longer be a typical consumer. American culture is fucked up with its worship of money and conspicuous consumption. So much of my life revolves around what I have to do to pay the bills but if I was to live in a way that required few, if any, bills it would free me to live the life I want. Is 8-5, Monday through Friday what the average American must accept in order to survive? What about the things that really matter?

Survival:
1. a home or place of protection
2. food and water
...isn't that about it?

The gravy:
1. time with family
2. time with friends
3. freedom of time and movement
4. creative endeavours

Anyway, I'm not really into the dumpster diving thing, though I don't have a problem with those that do. I am just looking for alternatives to the status quo economic system. However, I am much more interested in getting food from locally grown sources instead of the dumpster.

I need to think about this more and will post more thoughts about this later.
