I am currently reading Anne Rice's "The Witching Hour", the first book of the Mayfair Witches series. I am only about halfway through (it's quite long, which makes me happy) but I quite like it. In my opinion, the quality is better than that of most of the Vampire Chronicles that I have read, except for Queen of the Damned, which I believe is about equal to this in quality. In both of the books there is the same sense of a complete world, which I do believe the Talamasca as a whole helps with. All the stuff that took place in the past in both books was also fun. And there are so many female characters with possiblility in The Witching Hour! Queen of the Damned gave us Maharet, but this book gives us countless female characters, some more fleshed out than others, but most with interesting histories and personalities.

I do believe I may enjoy this series more than the Vampire Chronicles.
