Tony Nominations

For the first time in my memory, I find the plays infinitely more interesting than the musicals.

Well, of course, I'd like Sunday in the Park with George to win a bunch of things, particularly the technical awards (there is a great magic in this production, I believe, and that's so utterly neccesary for any production of that musical), and it would be really nice if Laura Benanti won, as well as South Pacific for a couple of things. But that's just the revivals. I don't care about the new musicals at all, which is slightly depressing.

But the plays! I'm torn between rooting for Macbeth and The Homecoming, and a little part of me that's excited in anticipation for next month when I shall see it wants Les Liaisons Dangereuses to win things, particularly costumes. It's very exciting.

Of course, with my luck, August: Osage County will sweep (yes, I know it's apparently amazing, but Macbeth and The Homecoming were both just such intense and wonderful theatre experiences for me, I can't help but root for them despite what all the critics and my friends say about August).

But, really, I'm crossing my fingers for Raul Esparza (who was great in The Homecoming, it wouldn't be just a sympathy win) and Patrick Stewart, and am torn between Kate Fleetwood and Eve Best.

And, really, Macbeth truly ought to win sound design.
