Winter had just blown through. Temperatures were so low that he’d not even bothered to check them. He had no use for it anyway. It wouldn’t do him any good or get him anywhere. The East River had been cold. And somewhere along the way he’d lost consciousness. But he wasn’t sure how far along the way. All he knew is he’d woke to a young girl’s face looming over his.
“DADDY! He’s awake!”
The older man merely gave a nod and walked over to where his daughter was with the stranger. “You gave us quite the scare.”
“Wh… who?”
“We’re just a small family living out here at sea for the most part. Or close enough to it. Our daughter found you in the river. You nearly died, sir. Your body was already cold as ice.”
That registered for a moment, making the assassin frown. But then he gives the older man a smile along with a slight ruffle to the little girl’s head. “Thank you.” Then after a moment. “Once I’m well enough I’ll be on my way.”
“It was our pleasure.” He says before putting an arm around his daughter and leading her out of the room so Jason could recuperate.
