Sinbi

Sinbi
It's almost a week since Siok and me left Singapore to train at Sinbi near Rawai Muang in Phuket. Today, on our first break since we started on Monday afternoon, I realized how much I relish the simple clarity of training twice a day, two-three hours at a time. The regimen is the same i.e. run, skipping, shadow-boxing, ring-side padwork,  et al, but the relative freedom to focus on whatever you want coupled with the ready help of the trainers is refreshing.

The people here are like family. Most of us are tourists, some come with the intention of fighting, for others it's just a training holiday. It's the latter for me, but I hardly feel out of place here, with everyone so easy-going. Be it brunch, dinner or rounds of Cha Yen, these people are a ready crowd. On Saturday night, freed from the expectation of training the following morning, we let loose with drinks and much good-natured fun together with the trainers.

I only wish I can be here longer. Who knows, after three months I might be ready for a fight? For now, I'll be content with improving my technique and doing something to arrest my horizontal expansion. There's five more days to look forward to. In that time, hopefully I'll be able to explore a little more of the southern part of the island, as well as go to Bangla Stadium to support some of our fighting friends. Maybe place a bet or two.

Kuala Lumpur ahead. Hope it'll be a rip.

Ziz.
