I really, really, really, really, really, really want the Swedish handball teams (yes, women too, even though I never watch it) to do well in the Olympics. Not just cause I love the sport, but because I want to stick it to the people of Sweden. You heard me. No one ever talks bad about the soccer team, for example. And they never win anything. But whenever things don't go the handball team's way, they "suck" and it's a "disgrace". Well, in this year's Olympics, I don't think Sweden will get any medals. My only hope is handball.
I watched a basketball game today. First one ever. It's not a big sport here, but I've always imagined I'd like it, because it's not so different from handball: tall guys bouncing a ball, and it's fast paced. For a second there, I even thought I was watching handball, cause the marks on the floor were similar. But only for a second. I know my handball, thank you very much. But I was disappointed. I watched China versus Spain. Mom said the US versus France was more exciting, but I couldn't be bothered. I just found it to be very slow, which did indeed shock me. And there were too many stops. How many time outs are you allowed to have?
But the thing that bothered me the most was that I don't know the rules. At all. Honestly, I'm really starting to question what the hell I've been playing in school. I was never allowed to go anywhere near the actual basket. I was yelled at if I came too close, even when I wasn't in that little area which I don't know the name of. My hypothesis is that they didn't want me too close because I'd score. Only, that's a stupid tactic, because I couldn't dunk to save my life, but scoring three pointers is easy peasy. Yeah, I'm good at basketball. Does that shock you? I can't dribble or anything, but I'm pretty damn good at shooting. We used to play a game called 21 every recess at school. Basically, you make free throws from where the ball bounces after it's hit the board behind the basket. First person to get 21 shots wins. We always played it so that the last shot had to be done with your back to the basket. Tricky... Anyway, we didn't play for a couple of weeks after someone stated it was "no fun cause Sarah always wins". The boys would never play if I was playing. Coincidence..?
Man, now I wanna go shoot some hoops! But just the free throws. Whenever I play an actual game, I end up with a sprained finger or two.
