Extra! Extra! Read all about it: I have a new cell phone! While I shouldn't be "wasting money" on such insignificant things, it had to be done. Seriously, my phone's been acting weird for a while now, being extremely slow and whatnot, so it was time. But hey, we had over three awesome years, me and my Sony Ericsson. I really didn't think it would last that long. Not only because it was slightly used when I got it, but also because the plastic at the base, where you plug in the charger, cracked over a year ago and I thought for sure that would be the end of our time together. But it's been a faithful servant, we've shared some really good times together. Some so good I manually wrote down - in my laptop - some text messages I did not want to lose forever. I couldn't go through all of them, naturally, but I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted. Some nostalgic (I saved the first messages I ever received from my bandmates), some sweet and some that can come in handy in the future, if I ever feel like a little blackmailing... Moahaha.
So the new one is an HTC Wildfire S. So far, I love it. I never thought I'd like a touch screen (my old phone was semi-touch and I had enough problems dealing with that, so full touch wasn't all that appealing), but it's actually not that hard. I'm a little paranoid about the whole internet thing, though. When I'm at home, it's connected to our WiFi - same as my laptop - and I do have a phone plan that supports unlimited mobile surf, but I just don't trust those things. I did however learn that Telenor has an automatic block on all programs requiring internet connection if I go abroad. So that's good.
Enough about techology; I've also been with my family to Denmark (went to Frederiksborg Castle, which I looooove) and we went on a little gravestone tour. You heard me. We were hoping to find some information on the headstones of our ancestors, but didn't really find much. It was still nice, though. I've never really known where my forefathers rest, but now I do. My great grandparents (heard lots about my great grandmother, and was fortunate enough to get 14 years with my great grandfather) are buried in a memorial garden, so there are no headstones. But you can still put flowers there, which my sister and I intend to do.
Mom managed to go back in her memory and retrace her steps to the final resting place of her great grandparents - i.e. my great great grandparents - and one of their sons - my grandfather's uncle. To see where they lie really meant a lot to me. I've always known they were special people, raising my grandfather when his biological mother decided she didn't want him. So I will definitely want to check in on them every now and then. It's close to one of the gates too, so I won't get lost in the cemetery :p My great great grandmother really meant a lot to my grandfather; he called her Mother. And I feel a special connection to her now that I know that we share a name (one of my middle names). I asked my mom if I was named after her and she said "No, we just liked the name. But maybe, somewhere in the back of my mind, I thought of her because I always thought she was really nice."
I'm a very nostalgic person who's always loved history, so seeing where my family came from is really interesting. Some people don't see the point of digging into the past, and some can't. And I'm not saying that it's important to know where you came from - if your great great great grandmother was a serial killer, it doesn't change the fact that you are a good person - but it's extremely interesting.
