"I'm so sorry I'm late! Just as I was leaving the mandrakes pitched a fit, I'm the only one that can deal with them. Can you ever forgive me?" the way Albus phrases it Scorpius knows he thinks it's all a great joke.

"I'm not sure" the way he says it Albus knows it isn't.

"What do you mean?"

"You told me to get here at five, I did. You didn't." if Albus can’t hear the accusation in his voice he isn't listening.

"I just finished explaining it. Honestly, don't you listen?"

This is not something Albus can joke his way out of, though it's his boyfriend's preferred way of avoiding conversations he doesn't like. "While you weren't here, guess who was."

"What?"

"Your entire family."

"What?" Albus sounds genuinely confused, but Scorpius doesn't buy it for a second.

"I had to sit here for an hour with all your relatives without you."

"I don't understand. were they prats? I mean, we joke a lot, not like your family, but if they offended you they were just trying to include you I'm sure."

"Yeah, the scarlet welcome carpet, they just rolled it out for me."

"It couldn't have been that bad."

"I hate your family."

"You know what Scorpius? How do you think I feel about yours? But I suffered through an entire week without saying anything because I have manners. You've been here an hour. If you don't like it, them, you can leave.

Albus storms into the next room and Scorpius is left there speechless.
