I went a long time without reading much. Not sure why; I like reading. Over the past couple of years, I've picked it up again and I always have a book in progress. I feel like it's the only good thing I offer my brain these days. For a while, I was only reading things of a fantastical nature, preferably featuring dragons and wizards. I recently re-read Mists Of Avalon. Ursula K. LeGuin's Earthsea Trilogy was great. I finally got through LOTR. I glazed over many of the war chapters. His Dark Materials series was great. No dragons, but hey, there were witches and talking bears. Lately I seem to be gravitating to classics, i.e. Tale Of Two Cities and I'm now reading Sense and Sensibilty. It's a re-read but I don't remember much of it. There is great a Leslie Helpert song inspired by it. Between the two, I read Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins. Really fun read. Maybe I enjoyed it so much because I really love beets. Has anyone ever tried to make that perfume? I'd like to try it.
Books on the short list are:
War And Peace (we'll see if I get throught that one)
All Dickens (I really enjoyed Tale Of Two Cities. Pretty riveting)
Re-read LOTR (aren't you supposed to read that one 50 times?)
Re-read Clan Of The Cavebear (read that one in junior high. The first one was great. The rest were kind of like chick flicks. Kind of a guilty pleasure)
So, any recommendations? Modern, classic, fantasy...anything. I seem to only be reading fiction, obviously. All of my book buying have been from thrift stores so I get what I find. With specific recommendations, I'd spring for a used store bought copy.
Ok, that's my little book post. Goodnight.
