Today I somehow managed to get out of the house without my mask. I have no idea where the one from my purse went. But BOY was it eye opening! So, for the first time all week, I ended up walking Ayanna to school without my mask on. Halfway into the 1/4 mile walk to Ayanna's school I was feeling more fatigued than I have felt all week. By the time we reached the school my lungs were feeling constricted. By the time we got home I was having serious trouble breathing. Needless to say, the first thing that I did when I got home was put 2 more masks in my purse and put another on.
I find it incredible that I never noticed the struggle to breathe before. I guess when you experience something on a constant basis you don't notice just how much it affects you. But I am surprised that five days wearing a mask outside the house, even though I take it off on occasion, was able to improve how I feel enough for this to have been so dramatic an experience. I have to say, after this morning I won't be complaining of how difficult these masks are to breathe through. (at least not as much!) Because breathing through the mask is infinitely easier than trying to breathe through pollution induced asthma.
Now to find a way to modify this mask design so that my breath doesn't fog my glasses in cool weather. Because that really IS annoying.
