I ordered the latest Lois McMaster Bujold Miles Vorkosigan novel Cryoburn in hardcover from Amazon, oh ages ago, and it arrived the Friday before Halloween. I was flipping through the volume preparatory to diving in, when I realized there was something stuck in the back of the book.
It was an envelope with a CD-ROM, bound into the book. And on that CD-ROM, was Cryoburn, in just about every conceivable e-book format.
Along with every other Vorkosigan tale, also in multiple formats. Plus related materials.
Free.
And sharable, with Baen's full blessing.
So I dashed off a heart-felt "thank you" to Baen, copied the proper files to my Kindle, and have been reading Bujold on the Kindle for the last week.
Oh, the disk? I passed it to my brother and nephew. Both of whom will be buying the physical copy of Cryoburn later, but, ya know, want to read it NOW.
