So our lab group went to V-Tech for the weekend, and did research all weekend with some of their labs, which was lame, although the students there were cool. The campus is really nice looking I gotta say, and it's right in the Cascade mountain range so we did some hiking up to some waterfall spewing 3 degree water. It was strange being there though, as we constantly walked by Norris Hall, it looking like nothing had ever happened there. There were no lights on in the second floor. I can't imagine them ever using those classrooms again. My friend suggested that they might turn the floor into offices, but even then, I don't think anyone would ever work there. I wouldn't. I probably wouldn't even had walked into the building had someone told me too. They were building a really nice memorial nearby though.
Anyway, my research suddenly got hard, in that I can't really slack off anymore like I have been all summer. As part of my job this week I have to volunteer at the Richmond Science Museum for some program for kids learning science. So basically I babysit 5th graders all morning then spend my afternoons at VCU doing research. Somehow I think that some kid is going to get hurt, either directly through me, or indirectly through my negligence. We'll see. The week after this one will be my last week though, then I can finally come back to Cohasset. I'm actually really looking forward to that. Hopefully I'll see all of you.
I have to work a double EMT shift next Sunday before taking a month off too. Last week was fun, although I almost destroyed some old lady who had just had a heart attack. She was a really big old lady. I couldn’t even get a blood pressure since her arm was so big, so I had to palpate it which is when you just get a systolic by feeling for a pulse as you let air out of the blood pressure cuff. When we got her to the hospital I was pulling her out, but our truck was on a slanted hill so the stretcher swerved right as it came out and didn’t catch on the hook in the ambulance that it normally catches, and the whole thing came flying out and this poor lady almost fell out the side. I feel pretty bad about it, as I could have prevented it. Luckily someone was there to catch her. Luckily, she was unconscious the whole time too haha. The rest of the night was calmer. We got some crazy lady who had a stroke who was insane though. She was talking the whole way there about how her shoes were on her feet and how this was not a drill and was her reality check. Needless to say, she went to the psych ward. Gotta love my job.
