oy! Ü

i had another conversation with my dad about PT grads from the Philippines. here's a draft of their future clinics and recruitment plans:

---tips for graduates and graduating students: have grades of at least 80-85% in major subjects and the Philippine board exams; apply for and get as high a score as you can in the US board exams in Guam.

reason: even though the demand for PTs isn't that high, the US Board will prioritize US grads' applications for board exams. it's natural that they first accomodate their own grads, therefore the goal should be to get high grades that would rival the US grads'.

setback: there seems to be one problem concerning acceptance of foreign-trained PT graduates; the word in PT circles is that one must have a Masteral Degree to be accredited and permitted to take the US Board Exams and/or work in the US. if this is true, then one has 3 options:
1) pass the Phil. Board Exams, study for a Masteral Degree, graduate, then apply for the US Board Exams.

2) pass the Phil. Board Exams, come here (USA) and study for a Masteral Degree, graduate, then apply for the US Board Exams

3) pass the Phil. Board Exams, apply for the US Board Exams, and if they insist on a Masteral Degree, then challenge them that if you pass the PTA (Physical Therapy Assisstant) Board Exams, then you could work as a PTA. and while working, you could take up the credit units needed to be considered as having a US Masteral Degree.

***4) only for 2ndyr students: come here (USA), be accredited for General Education units, enroll in equivalent major subjects, graduate, study for a Masteral Degree, graduate, then apply for US Board Exams.

---when you pass the US board exams, notify us so that we could arrange and file your employee petition papers. there are no definite contract guidelines yet, but we'd probably reimburse all application and travel expenses, e.g. application fees, plane tickets, etc.

---contracts may be for around 1-2yrs. fulfill the contract, and you're expenses will be reimbursed. i think you'll also be given a monthly allowance, e.g. food, gas, etc. maybe even living arrangements would be offered in the contract. if you quit before your contract expires, i think you'd have to pay a bond amounting to expenses incurred during the petition process.

---now about the clinics: the company is Florida Rehabilitation Specialist, LLC. it is under the partnership of my father, Socrates Figueras, and two of his former students, Forwen Dela Rosa and Jim Dinal. there is already one fully-operational clinic in Lady Lake, Florida. it's the main clinic, open since June 1, 2004. the second clinic will be opening this mid-September in Ocala, Florida. there are already plans of opening another clinic in Ocala next year. we get patient referrals from doctors. clientele mainly consists of geriatric patients having undergone knee or hip replacement surgery.

so far those are the details. kung may malabong detail, or may nakalimutan akong isama, reply lang dito sa Friendster, or sa email ko: shivershifter at yahoo dot com.
