Ancient and Modern and everything inbetween

Well, life's been going on and time passing quickly. It's been quite an Alan Garner month and while I've thought my way through many posts here I've not actually written any of them down.

Alan Garner is a favourite author of mine and when I moved down to Cheshire I was excited to find that he's a local-to-here author. It's been especially strange walking through Alderley Edge where all the Weirdstone of Brisingamen and Moon of Gomrath action takes place. It isn't too far removed from what my mind created when reading the books so many years ago but being from further north, my imagination made Alderley Edge rather more rugged and spikey.

About three weeks ago, I went with johnrw and frostfox to Blackden which is home to Alan Garner and family who live in a very old "long house". They also added to the site an amazing building called The Medicine House, rescued from destruction not far from Goostrey where they are. This will give a better explanation:

It is truly magical and more magical still is the fact that the fabulous scope at Jodrell Bank is in the neighbouring field making an amazing contrast between ancient and modern and futuristic. We saw some archaeological dig sites and some of the many and impressive items found in the grounds there from flints to ironmongery. Awe inspiring and too amazing to give justice to here.

This week, we went to Jodrell Bank to a lecture given by Alan Garner on the advent of his new book Boneland, a continuation of the Brisingamen and Gomrath stories. Alan is a fabulous speaker, interesting, informative and humorous and bless him, he patiently signed books for us all and was gracious and fun.

I've joined the Blackden Trust (with johnrw) and hope to be active members there. anyone can join, they have friends from around the world - a worthy cause, just saying!!

Boneland is a whole, individual entry by itself but I'm not ready to write that one yet!!
