Has anyone heard of this? Try playing it with headphones on... damn, this makes a whole tone of noise, though. So be ready. It DOES make sense though... if blurring = pain. See what happens when you get the game to the most blurred, wow...! Also, I like how the other kids are entirely generic and are not saying anything sensible, that was a great design choice!
But be really, really, REALLY wary. The game does attempt to viscerally simulate the stress someone is feeling in proximity to massive amounts of noise. And it does a good job at that, given the medium. Sooo... uh... volume extra low, if you are attempting to get the game to get as close to the, um, mental shutdown state, as possible!
