I saw Gary Numan

Oct 21, 2010 04:08

within a few feet of myself today for first time. I'm what you call a "Numanoid" from long before his comeback and way back to Tubeway Army and while I don't own all the albums, I've got a lot of his music....I mean, I felt something before he came out Aspergers too that he was playing my chord.

So I was rather thrilled and even overloaded at the end of today...I feel quite lucky as I found out last minute (at lunch today) and it was a less crowded venue close by and with availability. He'd never come to where I lived before...so I jumped at the chance, got off work early and got down to DC. Sometimes I just love this city. :)

I've not been this close to a musician of renown before. I stood next to a guy up front in a wheelchair. I was happy to see him go backstage after the show. Apparently, Gary is not a groupie and chick-monger like some. I also seemed to be around a lot of others like myself although sometimes it seems you can't tell a hipster from an aspie (lol).

I was worried he might cancel the performance since he did just 2 days ago due to laryngitis/overwork. He had some struggle at first...the intros were extended on a bunch of the first songs but as he warmed up, he finished rather strong and he seemed to get really into it/very cheerful...which really made my evening.

In other news, it was wear purple day, (palindrome day: 10/20/2010 or 2010-10-20) to remember the recent rash of gay teen suicides (7+ in a month) or rather, bullycides. (I feel odd that it finally gets any attention/wasn't noticed earlier) I think bullying is an issue that relates to all minorities and especially autistics and anyone different.

Tomorrow, full moon. :P
