So, I have social anxiety disorder, not as bad as I used to but it still affects my ability to function in group situations. This is rooted in my childhood as a result of humiliating experiences in school, which were undoubtedly due to my autism/asperger's or whatever I have.
My question is, how many of you actually have social anxiety disorder as opposed to just a general lack of interest in social activities I think it's interesting that neither of my girls suffers from social anxiety even though they are both on the spectrum. My younger one, who has an autism diagnosis loves to be with friends but remains somewhat detached from it all, kind of participating vicariously through the others. But she never chooses to avoid social situations, like, for instance, she is psyched about her choir and swim team banquets, while my guts are churning even thinking about it and it's two months off!
I feel like a large portion of my problems link to anxiety, so I'm wondering how that all ties in to asd.
