Update on the piss poor evaluation situation.

When I got home from that awful session, I called my friend Rachel and told her about it.  She got very pissed and insisted that I talk to her mother, who is a psychiatrist.  She called her up and told her about it, and she called me back and said to call her tomorrow and discuss everything.

I'm really glad you're getting some help on this-

***BUT****

This is really, really unprofessional behavior on the part of this other psychiatrist. I would be a little concerned- if she's thsi unprofessional about her conduct regarding colleagues, how does she handle her clients?!

'screwing with her' and 'revenge mode' are definately not professional behavior. Period.

Part of being a 'good' psychiatrist is to make the patient feel better about their situation, I'd say.

The language certainly isn't professional, but then again, she's not talking to her professional colleagues - she's talking TO the dissatisfied patient, with intentions of continuing a relationship with this new patient. She is probably looking to make the patient feel better about the situation and also attempting to reassure her that Psych #1 is a gross anomaly. In this situation, telling the patient about the "revenge" she will wreak on Psych #1 is not so much poor behavior as it is an upsell to further convince the patient that she is on her side, making her a 'better' patient because now the patient will hopefully be more open with her as a result.

It's too soon to tell either way, but certainly it's a sign of finding a good motivational psych.

She is VERY professional, she was using those laymen terms because A) Her daughter is one of my best friends and she knows me on a personal level and B) She has a huge pet peeve against this sort of thing, psychiatrists not treating patients with respect.
