Synaesthesia, anyone?

Does anyone here have or know someone who has synaesthesia? I believe I heard somewhere that there is a crossover between autism spectrum disorders and synaesthesia, although the latter is far more rare (and I can't place where I heard that; it may have just been "someone in a community somewhere ( Read more... )

I have emotional disturbances with dirty red things. For a while, spiderman was very scary to me. Probably made me cry a few times. Also, nothing says "abbattoir" louder than going into a target. I sometimes walk out feeling like one is in my back. Walmart makes me feel like I'm surrounded by keystone cops they way they patrol restrooms for shoplifters but pretty much "accomplish nothing".

Sometimes loudness like audiences clapping is like a multisensory experience. ie: I feel jerking in my legs and sometimes memory loss/flight and blackout or sometimes the lights just go up really high with the sound. It turns bright white/green overloading and then I get nauseous. Laughter causes head rush or anger responses automatically sometimes. I have read that laughter is primitive animal taunting done by predators/alphas etc. (but not quite what hyenas do per se) There are two kinds of laughing. ie: mockery/confidence and submissive sheepish/chuckling. Laughter is the human social ladder building. (maybe handshakes too). Anyhow, I find that jokes are used a lot in establishing the pecking order. Whoever gets the most response laughs is "voted top dawg" in the unwritten rulebook.

Well, there's a lot on this topic and I know I can ramble on this one.

what do you mean by "dirty red"? I met someone recently who couldn't stand red because it made them think of blood. I have always been VERY drawn to red because it is "delicious". I think of candy. I don't even like candy but red to me is very jolly.

Now that I think of it...there is that red color, Target red, fast food red...like yucky plastic red...It's not really orange red, it's bright and yet dull.

Exactly. Dull oxidized/sickly red is part of it.

Yes and no about "blood". I don't mind see it in places expected ie: like an OR or in a bag or a person I'd expect to see it on undergoing some procedure. What is scary is when it's splattered all over the walls.

Red on the walls can be ok sometimes. ie: Somehow, the slight difference/brighter colored rooms in some Chinese buildings isn't so bad, also, they don't have as much an "enclosed" feeling.
