I had weird dreams last night filled with magical items. One of the items was a magical sword with a black handle - it had a mind of its own. Though when I held it I could aim it and direct it, it would suddenly attack other objects it seemed to "notice". In particular it attacked small statues of bulls that also appeared in the dream and I had to struggle to get it to stop. It also attacked a hanging plant. I got the sense that these other items were also magical and had some personality of their own, but I have no idea what they did, or why the sword was so antagonistic towards them. After a bit of trying, I finally found a place where I could set it in a display harness where it wouldn't attack other items nearby.
The other magical item I found was a blanket that when I covered myself with it became a cloak. This cloak also seemed to have an intelligence to it, but didn't seem to act on its own. I got the sense that this cloak somehow allowed me to do more traditional/stereotypical types of magic like cast spells and such, though I can't recall any I tried. It also seemed to enhance natural abilities I seem to have when I'm dreaming, especially flying (as in without a plane, or wings, etc).
Flying in my dreams goes back many years and is kind of a weird thing in that its something that takes a LOT of constant effort and has improved with practice from one dream to another. In my first flying dreams even just floating in place a few inches off the ground was an exhausting effort both mentally and physically - it felt like I had to push with every fiber of my being. Over many times and many dreams I eventually learned I could also push horizontally so I could fly around a room. These were typically done just by tucking my legs up (in a kneeling position) so my head really wasn't any higher than normal, and at first it was slow. What was strange was that from one dream to another over the years each time was still an effort, but its like I built up a stamina for it. Kind of like exercise in the real world allows you to go further and do things you couldn't before, you get used to it and it takes more to wear you out. Eventually in dreams I could reach rooftop/treetop height and fly in a more superhero-style position, but even to that seems to take a lot of effort. The worst part is that when I wake up I remember what it felt like to fly, but my body feels like lead in comparison. The sensation is so visceral that its frustrating to wake up and not be able to accomplish it.
Anyhow, in last night's dream, when I wore the cloak, flying at treetop level and jetting around hardly took any effort - about as much as it does in other dreams these days to just levitate off the floor. I have to say that was fun. I tried to get the cloak to do some other things, but shortly afterwards woke up.
