There's nothing unusual about tonight. It's just another Thursday--no rain, no fog, nothing to worry about but school. School is the reason you've invited Yosuke over, to study for that test tomorrow but something feels different.
Maybe it's because you're not doing much work right now. Instead you find your gaze drifting, watching Yosuke over the edge of your book for no explainable reason. Maybe it's the steady tap, tap-tap of his pencil on his binder that's so distracting, matching the faint beat you can hear thrumming through his headphones. He's clearly just as distracted as you are, lost in whatever song he's listening to, eyes closed and head tilted back slightly, exposing the curve of his throat beneath his uniform collar.
Yosuke is just tan enough that your skin would look almost white next to his, and you have to stop yourself from lifting a hand just to see, to let your fingers brush his. For a moment, you're tempted. If you touched him you could catch his attention, which takes serious effort when he's this absorbed in his music.
You know you should keep focused, that you should tell him to keep focused but for some reason, that's been harder and harder lately. You don't know when things changed, when he became as much of a distraction as anything else. Maybe more of a distraction than anything else.
You're smart enough to recognize this for what it is--to some degree, anyway. There's no point denying or trying to rationalize it, and in some ways it's almost exciting. Because it's different than what you've felt with the girls, and you can't quite pinpoint what it is about Yosuke that draws you in. For someone who's relatively easy to read, emotions playing across his features with very few filters, Yosuke--more specifically, your relationship with Yosuke--is something of a mystery to you.
The beat changes to a tap-tap--pause--tap of Yosuke's pencil and your gaze shifts from that pencil back to his face. His lips are parted, mouthing the lyrics to whatever he's listening to and you're struck by the urge to pull his headphones back and whisper words that will affect him the same way. No--you want to affect him more than his music. That would be a challenge in and of itself, requiring as much eloquence and courage as you can muster.
You're staring, and you've spaced out enough that it takes you a moment to realize that Yosuke is staring back now, the pencil still against his binder. He looks embarrassed, skin taking on a pink flush as he hastily averts his gaze, flipping open his notebook.
"Sorry, man. Where were we?"
You don't respond for a moment, still watching him as you weigh your options.
'The chapter on perfect numbers.'
'What are you listening to?'
'I want you.'
The first two don't really appeal, and you're not brave enough for the third. You are, however, brave enough to bridge the gap of one couch cushion between you, leaning in and pressing your lips to Yosuke's. You replay that third option and it sounds odd even as you voice it in your head, acknowledging something you've felt for weeks now and couldn't find a name for. You still don't know what name to give this, nor do you entirely want to.
You hear the pencil roll out of Yosuke's hands and onto the floor, the startled --mmph! that escapes the other boy's lips and the faint hum of his music. You can make out a guitar strumming over the bass, now, but you would have to lift those headphones to really be able to listen.
It seems like ages before Yosuke finally responds, lips parting against yours and a hand works its way to the front of your uniform, fingers tensing as they grip the fabric, as if he's trying to ground himself. You deepen the kiss and it's cute how he's almost fighting for dominance, nipping at your lower lip as your hands move to push Yosuke's headphones off of his ears, settling them around his neck instead.
He's the one who pulls back first, brown eyes searching yours for a moment before surprise shifts to annoyance, his eyebrows furrowing as he adjusts the headphones, though he doesn't turn his music off or put them back over his ears. "These weren't cheap, you know. Don't just grab them like that."
It's your turn to be surprised as the fingers in your shirt tighten and Yosuke pulls you down again, lips hesitant at first as he kisses you before he seems to grow more confident, tongue sliding against yours.
You can't say that you expected your study session would turn out this way, but you can't say that you've never thought about it, either. It's--different from anything you'd ever imagined, in a lot of ways. Different from any other kiss you've had. Yosuke's lips are slightly chapped, and the way he kisses you is rough, not exactly taking the lead but still making it clear that he's not going to be completely submissive. He smells like sweat and earth--you wonder if he took a tumble off his bike again on the way over here--and his body is far less delicate than a girl's, though he's still smaller in frame than you. The heat coiling in your stomach is different, too, wondering at how he can affect you so much when all you're doing is kissing.
This is new. Exciting. Maybe a little scary, but you're not going to admit that.
You pull back enough to press your lips against his jaw, his neck, finally able the make out the words of the song playing through Yosuke's headphones as you nip at his skin, alternating teeth and tongue. A thrill runs through you at the soft moan that draws out of Yosuke, and you're suddenly grateful that Nanako has the TV turned up louder than usual tonight.
You don't stop to think about what you're doing as you undo the buttons of his uniform jacket, and Yosuke follows suit, fingers fumbling at your own. That ends up slowing things down rather than helping, and his face is reddening again as he mumbles an apology but eventually you're down to one layer. A slight improvement, at least, and Yosuke is already trying to make up for lost time as he unbuttons your shirt--his fingers are shaking slightly, and he's probably praying that you haven't noticed--before he pushes back the fabric, hands splayed against your chest. You're amazed by the difference skin-against-skin makes, Yosuke almost radiating warmth as he touches you.
He's always warm. There's warmth in easy smiles, vibrant laughter; the spark of determination and of anger in brown eyes, sometimes building to a fire, intense and thrilling.
And there's a different kind of fire now, in taut muscles beneath you as you push him back against the couch, in fingertips blazing trails over your skin. You wonder if you'll both burn up by the time this is over, clothes shed quickly and skin touching skin, lips and teeth marking every inch they can find. You feel feverish and you'd almost welcome the rain now if only for a chance to cool down, to slow down, to make this last.
"Souji--"
Your name surprises you and it's almost lost against your lips as you kiss Yosuke again, hand curled around him and moving faster now. He's rocking into that touch, shamelessly, body trembling against your own and fingers gripping your shoulder in an attempt to steady himself, nails digging in just enough to undoubtedly leave crescent-shaped marks.
His nails dig in harder and in another moment he's shuddering, nearly biting your lip as he comes, sticky and warm against your hand. He pulls back from the kiss and for a moment all you can hear is the sharp intake and exhale of breath and the bass still pounding from Yosuke's headphones, almost in synch with his breathing, with the thrum of his pulse and your own heart beating loudly in your ears.
The night is far from over, and you feel as though something inside of you has already changed. You refuse to think about this too much, about what exactly all of this means, but you wonder if your relationship with Yosuke will become stronger soon.
In the meantime, you're just going to follow the beat and see where it takes you.
